Gee... the TechCrunch readership is a VERY broad-church isn't it? In the above comments, we have got the 'informed-receptive-thinkers', and the 'ill-informed-info-sponges'. The latter could be called the <i>'what's in it for me'</i> crowd. These guys, (generally they are guys, I presume) like to put-down anything they don't understand, as if web-commentary was a fast-food outlet. <i> "Give me my burger, fries and coke, and don't ever, ever, ever change the menu."</i>
...and be sure to never <b>'think-different'</b>. ;)

I find it funny that so much readers feel like you have stolen time/energy and thereby took up lot's of that all so valuable brain capacity..
(: Yet find plenty of time to read comments, comment and most probably let themselves get pretty much frustrated :)

Thanks for this pleasent and most interesting read!

Alsmost enough reason to start following techcrunch again, or become a follower on twitter, when 140 is up a bit..

Simon - Fair enough. But you need to consider that Steve does write for an audience (as well as himself).

Some background: Steve's recent passion on the web is the real-time message delivery function that was/is Twitter's "track" functionality.

Steve would open a GTalk window and connect to the Twitter "User Account" (via XMPP) and get a steady stream of realtime "inputs" from the huge community of Twitter users.

Track allows you to input a text string and ANY TWITTER MESSAGE containing that string is send to your twitter message queue.

So on a news day with heavy with events around flooding Steve might track
"flood" and get a pure stream of link (Tiny URL's) to investigate the growing awareness of events related to the floods.

As a career journalist that had to have lunch or phone contacts to stay current Steve sees this Networked OS like functionality to be a real game changer.

Most of the post above celebrates and extrapolates that enthusiasm.

Re-read it again now that you have some background.

NOTE: To follow Steve is to know Steve. If you don't want to then please... let him "ramble on" without continual attacks for wanting to document his lasted thinking for the audience that does care.

Prokofy:
Your re-definition of sharing as ... "something that more powerful people induce weaker people or people with less media resources to engage in."
is a sound starting point for a nice paranoid belief system. If we take it to it's logical conclusion we get... what? The inability to trust anyone... or just an excuse to trust selectively without needing evidence: just a paranoid framework. Throw in a few more labels and your got the potential for a movement: religious or political. Thanks for sharing.

Steve, blogging is journalism. Journalism is writing for an audience, not writing for oneself. Your broad vocabulary is admirable, but the fact that it obscured rather than enhanced what you were trying to say is unforgivable. You could have said the same thing, without any dumbing-down of the message, with much more accessible language.

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah

We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Yeah!
C'mon, yeah

Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get
She get
She get
She get high

I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chain us
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!

Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

"Sharing" is a shill, it's something that more powerful people induce weaker people or people with less media resources to engage in. Usually the person inducing the sharing is getting paid, and the person who "shares" isn't getting paid.

Hi Techcrunch

Request: Is it possible to create something so all the comments that do not touch the subject of the article are 'marked' in some kind of way?

It is remarkable how many people do not comment on what the article is about; it is remarkable how many people do not bring the article further, which is the big opportunity because we are able to comment.

Visionary posts. Perhaps an idea to create a new segment: VisionCrunch ... ideas, insights etc on where the web is going...

Anyway, keep up the good work.

I found this to be one of the better posts on techcrunch. Thought-provoking. But I know that concept is scary to the vast majority of people.
