Michael was dragged out of bed at 8AM on Wednesday morning to talk with ABC’s Vinita Nair about the situation at Yahoo, its deal with Google, and where that leaves Microsoft. He wakes up about a minute into the interview when he starts discussing the talent drain at Yahoo and how the deal gives Google an even larger share of search advertising dollars.
At the end, he touches on the antitrust concerns brought up by the Yahoo-Google deal and the prospect of Microsoft coming back with a lower bid down the road.

Cool!
But - the video that he shot while simultaneously driving the car to WWDC is still my favorite.
god it’s painful to even watch that video. waaaaay too early. I can’t imagine anything worse in the world than 8 am.
That was a very informative video. It seems like this Google/Yahoo deal is the same as a little old blog putting Ad Sense on their page, times a lot. I over simplified, but is it not the same thing?
Even if the Gov’t anttrust laws apply, will this deal ever be broken immediately? Case in point, Microsoft in 2002 was deemed as a monopoly.
Why do I never see this on actual television. I’m in Socal, Mike should be all over the news here right? Why is this always taped on and rebroadcast on Youtube and stuff.
TC should put a schedule on it’s home page so we can see if these guys are actually ever on TV. I have TW SoCal cable, so if there’s a channel he’s on, I should get it.
How much did you have to slap yourself to actually wake up?
Wait, since when does Michael sleep?
Nice point of view, Michael! I didn’t see Microsoft as a winner in this race, winning against Yahoo! but along with it!
Sorry they got you up so early Michael. I like what you had to say about Yahoo’s talent losses. Jerry Yang seems to have taken the attitude that the captain goes down with the ship, but the executive team is taking the life boats at an incredible pace. Sadly this almost seems like a Titanic where there won’t be enough life boats in the end and the regular, everyday Yahoo employees will go down too.
ABC: “So tell us Michael, how do Yahoo! and how does Google win? How do both of these companies win?”
Arrignton: “It’s tough to see at this point how Yahoo! can win, and in fact today actually marks the one year anniversary of the day that CEO Jerry Yang took over, so he was one of the founders of the company in the 90’s, was never CEO, became CEO a year ago with at the time a strong vision to take the company forward, ah, lead in their space, monetize search, ect. Almost none of that has happened. Instead what’s happened is we’ve had a mass exodus of executives from the company and they’ve lost massive search market share and generally speaking people are not bullish on the company.”
Good answer…!? TechCrunch clearly has some sort of agenda to hammer the issue of Yahoo! exec’s leaving. Why? Why is that the answer to this question? Surely there can be a better answer. Anyone?
seriously getting sick of this yahoo news
it’s quite old already, except for how everyone’s jumping ship
Big software company in the Bay Area (the one with the expensive luxury car dealership right in front of them, located on hwy 101, buildings look like hard disk drives, CEO likes to sail away) is moving all of their QA to India
Looks like layoffs are in the works. Imagine that! People more worried about their title and how many levels down from the CEO they are instead of decent bodily odor will be more likely to catch errors in software development better than anyone else. Brilliant move by Mr. Tony Starks himself.
Nah! It’s all just a P&L decision. Just hold on tight, because the Germans are coming. And their QA is flawless, sort of.
She referred to Michael as co-founder of TechCrunch. This is news to me.. who’s the other founder?
“Analyzes?” Come on, Arrington and Yahoo are as predictable as Hannity and Obama at this point.
Glad to see MSM embracing you and your views. For once, the news has laid faith in bloggers besides Perez Hilton and TMZ. Perhaps you could become a Tech News columnist for ABC that they can syndicate at the end of the week?
… Hopefully not at 8am. Bloggers need sleep.
~Joe
The only question I want to know is when your the big dog in the tech news world do you get to date cute reporters like that? Does supernerd = super model.
Gebadia - nope. and the funny thing is, since this was done over satellite, i never saw her until it was on tv.
Even though that was early for Mike he looked a bit healthier than the last vid recorded of him on tv news.
@Faramarz Since it says Erick as a co-editor alongside Mike on the About page, I guess that’s who it is!
Isn’t Arrington the guy that compared Microsoft’s monopoly to Firefox using Google as one of seven default search engines that are easily replaced with a click of a button? That same Arrington?? Surely not that guy.
HORRAY
Thanks for not going on Faux Noise. I was getting tired of you guys on Faux Noise.
David, Nope.. Erick came on board after he was laid off at Business 2.0
probably a mistake on her part.
LMAO… The thing I love about this video is how the beautiful young woman is all perky while Arrington, well, looks like he is sobering up.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… “Michael is looking more and more like Uncle Fester”

“..dragged out of bed at 8AM…”?
Ha! Sorry but I have no sympathy for guys that complain about having to get up early. I’ve had jobs where I start at 5AM and others where I don’t go in until noon. We’re all adults. There’s no room for whining when it comes to waking up.
Personally, Michael, I understand how getting up early when you’re on a schedule could be hard but I can’t tell that you look tired at all. No worries man and I’m not “calling you out” just voicing my opinion.
Michael looks like such a slob, lay off of the twinkies bro! Your making millions but can’t put on a tie or fix your hair… Maybe you should only do Radio interviews….. Go ahead and ban me but it’s the truth…. Dress for Success!
Mike, I know from the twitter schedule that I’ve seen you keep, that that’s not a good time of day for you!
Michael, think about a radio career instead of TV.
Arrington - you look very tired… Bags under the eyes, etc. Go to the spa and lounge it up in your mansion.
You made my month Arrington. If I had a bucket list getting a response from you would be on it. Thanks
There is no sarcasm in that.
Erik - you’re banned.
Keith Teare is the co-founder of TC (ceo of edgeio)

ya cool
So Arrington gets to be wrong on yet another TV show.

Am I the only one to think that Michael is like the most anti-charismatic guy of the class room and yet… yet I have to admit that I kind of 100% agree with everything he says. Depressing.
@ Meme
Well said.
@Uncle Fester thats just plain wrong
Wow - nicely done, but it looks like you’d just come off the back off a long night out, not out of bed Michael!
Give Mike a break, being on TV is almost as stressful as giving a speech. Mike get some sleep man…you look like the living dead.
Isn’t Arrington the guy that compared Microsoft’s monopoly to Firefox using Google as one of seven default search engines that are easily replaced with a click of a button?
That would explain his pro-Microsoft angle in the Yahoo deal. I wondered a few weeks ago how many Yahoo naysayers had MS stock.
wow these guys took of my posting. so much for opinions fat boy!
Bummer
May god bless Yahoo!
Thanks for bothering to show up — I think. Sheesh.
