I am glad to hear that Farhad is back! And thank you TechCrunch for breaking the news.

Farhad was always criticized one way or the other, no matter what he did, prior to the sale of BizRate/Shopzilla.

But he proved all nay sayers wrong and I am sure he will do so again.

BizRate raised $50+ million in March 2000; however, due to his wisdom, Farhad did not burn the money and stayed focus on his core business.

I have no doubt his new venture WILL make all his other ideas look like child's play.

Good Luck Farhad!

So a good idea needs more than money - Perhaps a rich founder will want to "take investment" in an inexpensive start up not for the money but for the person

Anyone who has started and nurtured 2 successful dot coms deserves some press even if this is a bare intro to "he is doing something"

Cheers

@50 well put. We need to break down these walls that are made out of fear, national pride, corporate greed, etc., and pursue living life. Corporations are controlling us at work by holding our brains hostage with a paycheck and outside work by blasting us with their advertisements, and reaching us at home through the media. Corporations might also be the answer to peace (when years down the road the majority of the public is working in a cubicle, they'll then realize what life is not supposed to taste like, and finally break down the prison gates). Peace and love to all

My hat is off to all those who take a chance to bring to life a new idea and help humanity in the process. Excuses such as I have a great idea but unfortunately a family, loans, debt, no time, etc. are what make the difference between those who make it big and those who will continue looking at those that succeed and say "that was my idea" or "Why did I not think of that" or "why is s/he where s/he is today and I am not.."
Anyways dear 'Captain' I hear you, but I disagree with much of what you are saying. With much respect.
Appreciate people who take risks. Anyone of us no matter how rich or poor have difficult situations in life that can hinder us from facing our fears and getting freed from our daily corporate/office jobs that we hate much - but those that do need respect and instead of criticism, we need to learn and grow - Get rid of your fears Captain.

also why raise money

well money is money and it's always better to use someone elses. You want some expertise, what better way to make sure you get the commitment when it's also their neck on the line.

2nd, $375k not a lot some say, idiots. I've got two cracking ideas that would get a HUGE kick start with 1/10th of that money but sadly I've got a job and family to support so can't always get to hang out in winebars to schmoose investors.

Plus, If the idea is good then why would you need more, Pierre Omidyar didn't and you could argue he started with $15, less taxes ;)

well money is money and it’s always better to use someone elses. You want some expertise, what better way to make sure you get the commitment when it’s also their neck on the line.

2nd, $375k not a lot some say, idiots. I’ve got two cracking ideas that would get a HUGE kick start with 1/10th of that money but sadly I’ve got a job and family to support so can’t always get to hang out in winebars to schmoose investors.

As a sector analyst, I've spoken to Farhad about this, and it's an unusually fresh idea in a market where two-bit start-up ideas with massive investments behind them are paraded across my desk all the time.

The biggest trap inexperienced entrepreneurs fall into is thinking investment = credibility = success. None of that is true. We've had one bubble burst already because of that mentality, and during a period of economic instability, it's all about tight focus on cautious investment until a product has found its footing (and only investing as much as you need to get a project off the ground after which the business itself will justify further investment). It's called sensible product development - something you don't often see. Product development doesn't begin with throwing a pile of cash at a wall. This is investment common sense.

So the fact the initial capital is $300k doesn't mean anything. As the English say, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. So I suggest everybody waits and sees the product, then judges for themselves at that point.
