Broadband does not exist everywhere and not everyone likes RIA. RIA would of course continue to have limited use not an extensive one. However, I tend to believe this open source momentum from Google is not about tackling real applications like Premiere, PhotoShop, Illistrator, but a push twards supporting the more day to day web applications that are taking over our lives. For example, RIA done in Flex/Silverlight do not lend themselves very well to integrating into the Google Advertising engine. More interesting along these lines is Apple's push for no flash. Google uses flash when its the right thing to use. (Analytics, new Google Maps). Apples one-eye approch leads us to a more interesting conclusion.
