TechCruncher Nik Cubrilovic Gives Seesmic A Little Advice
by Michael Arrington on June 9, 2008

Nik Cubrilovic gives Seesmic a little user interface advice in this interactive video hosted at…Seesmic. Very funny if you use both Seesmic and Twitter. The other 95% of you should just move on the the next post.

Disclosure: I’m a Seesmic investor. And I still think this is funny (Nik seems to imply that Seesmic is a waste of time).

Leave your best video comment below and tell Nik why he’s wrong. or right. or not funny. etc. Best one gets a TechCrunch Tshirt. Bonus points are awarded if you are already wearing a TechCrunch Tshirt in the video.

  • Why do you let yourself invest in companies you write about? I understand that their is disclosure but come on, you have a stake in Seesmic becoming successful, that’s why you use it on your site and that’s why you talk about it. Seesmic is worthless, why would you leave a video comment on a blog when you could just write it out in text, text is searchable, scanable, and much easier to digest then video (especially with some people’s webcam and microphone setup).

    Come on Arrington.

  • Mike didn’t you invest in omndrive too?

  • Oh so very funny……. Where is that feed that removes everything arrington wrote again?

  • @Michael
    Indeed, video comments are not searchable neither scanable.

    If you combine Seesmic plugin with the commentag plugin though, you give a way to video commenters to tag their video and everything becomes much more easy to scan. You can select videos comments to play based on their tags (topics) like illustrated here: http://tinyurl.com/4vgqkf

    Without that, it is very risky to click on the play button (because you have no idea of what’s inside the video).

  • Seesmic could take a page from Twitterfone and Jott, and do some audio transcription where possible, for blog replies. That way, if you really needed inflections and other speech patterns, you could listen to them / watch the video, but otherwise you could just read.

    Nik, I find it quite telling that you don’t offer any menu options for Pownce, Plurk, FriendFeed, or Plaxo. :) I leave it to Scoble to make another definitive video explaining why you should use FF.

    (Oh, and you want to mail me a shirt, Michael, because I just got my invite to Seesmic, and it’d be tragic if I started using it to reply, without one. 2XL… capiche? :) )

  • Is he sitting on a vibrator? I keep hearing one in the video..
    ..and come on people, a conversation can be in any format, text, video, audio, whatever.
    Seesmic is providing the video option. choices will be made by wat is relevant to that particular conversation or your location or preferred method of expression at that time.

  • I was actually being slightly sarcastic – I think Seesmic is great. I finally got a chance to check it out this morning, and all I can say is that any app that can suck you in for a whole 45 (46?) minutes has something going for it.

    The funny thing is that I was recording really stupid embarrassing stuff and sending it to a couple of friends, then only once 10+ strangers started replying to the videos did I realize that it is all public by default :)

  • paullmf: the vibrating is the now infamous gen-1 Macbook Pro vibrate ‘feature’. It happens when it heats up, and I never sent mine back to get fixed under warranty

  • Seesmic is a total waste of time {seesmic_video:{”url_thumbnail”:{”value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/k65WUxzoP1_th1.jpg”}”title”:{”value”:”Seesmic is a total waste of time ”}”videoUri”:{”value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/96XUQ05cqc”}}}

  • well i guess its all relative, and where your sphere of interest lies. but dt has to say, i think seesmic is a great tool and has so many use’s outside of the web2.0 tech community it seems to inhabit.

    lots of niche communities have a desperate need for this. i dont think loic has even started to get into those spaces yet.

    whitelabel the app and ship as a product, would be a nice move.

    this was the dailytwitter

  • .

    Is this just a setup for selling Seesmic?

    Make ton of money at the expense of “community”?

  • ur my favourite waste of time… {seesmic_video:{”url_thumbnail”:{”value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/q0dTvj3YEr_th1.jpg”}”title”:{”value”:”ur my favourite waste of time… ”}”videoUri”:{”value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/IA58iBI5bk”}}}

  • Hmmm, and I wanted to leave a seesmic post reply…. There seems to be a problem Houston. All the replies seem to have their URL and embed code showing on the posts…..

    heyho.

    I actually thought he implied that Seesmic was good, not a waste of time. Funny funny – although you’re looking slightly sedated at the end there Nic!
