A while ago, CG’s Matt Hickey got a packet of screenshots of a squat green iPod from an anonymous source. That same green iPod got us a C&D from Apple and was finally proven to be the iPod Nano. Well, Matt just got another packet of photos and aside from a few discrepancies with might just be looking at a mock-up of Apple’s marketing collateral for the new iPhone. What does it include? GPS, 3G speeds, a front facing camera for video chat, and iChat for — along with iChat for Windows to complement the new hardware.

I thought the GPS (and probably other features as well) was unwittingly revealed last month in an overzealous press release by Swisscom. They withdrew it the next day (Apple were probably pretty upset that so much was made known) but not before it got seized on by Engadget http://www.enga...land-gps-mobil/
Mike,
The one thing about the video chat (if it is in fact a real feature) is that you could not watch the screen of the other person while you point the lens at yourself.
Looks pretty cool mike. Nice job at crunchgear of getting this out this evening. Too bad I just purchased my iPhone in December.
@Rodney – there’s another camera on the front
Why doesnt the (RED) iPhone have a Hold button at the top?!?!
(RED) no hold? {seesmic_video:{”url_thumbnail”:{”value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/RvWctFQQXE_th1.jpg”}”title”:{”value”:”(RED) no hold? ”}”videoUri”:{”value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/bEfgfZz44l”}}}
I guess we’ll find out Monday
Uhm…i’ll waiting Monday…
Wow. That looks very realistic. I wonder if someone at Apple is going to get offed for that leak. I hope that is the new iPhone.
We’ll probably find out tomorrow morning, if this gets a C&D then it is practically confirmed, but I’m not exactly holding my breath, there seems to be a lot of flaws in these pics.
Engadget seems to think its fake. http://www.enga...re-wwdc-editio/
I guess we’ll find out monday maybe?
@beau i looked very close and i cant see a lens anywhere on the front. having 2 lenses on a device seems redundant (more costly) and i think apple would be smarter than that. But if they did it then i am impressed.
Iv never understood why you people get such a hard on about the Iphone.
Most people in the real world could not care less. Maybe is a nerd thing.
Engadget has some interesting points suggesting they’re fake.
what difference is it going to make ? Not a good picture quality… i am already using it and i don’t find anything good in it that makes it differentiator from other same segment phone… it is unnecessary making hype in market… i would prefer htc touch phones…
haha, this is just a marketing guys
I don’t think these are real. Would prefer to wait until actual PR junket gets rolling to see actual product.
What I don’t understand, is that this picture is lifted straight from here: http://www.flic...N02/2557743940/
But yours has a CrunchGear watermark on it. How can you justify this?
Really good work
How does CrunchGear get all this good stuff? Good job, Mike. And you too, Matt Hickey and John Biggs!
I will be lined up to buy one!
if it’s real. this article will get a cease and desist soon. then we’ll know it’s real.
then again, maybe this is a fake. notice the product red logo at it’s official website here: http://www.joinred.com/
then, take a look at the product red logo for the ipod nano, here: http://store.ap.../ipod/ipod_nano
i’m thinking if this was ‘official’ this page would use the official product red logo. not just say (RED), but (product)^red.
I saw – in person – an early-version of the 3G on the plane a couple weeks ago.
While the device this person had was not a final production model, it did not have GPS (takes too much battery still, but engineers are working on it), and there was no indication it had a second camera lens. The person certainly didn’t mention video & it didn’t occur to me to ask about it.
This person did emphasize the enterprise-ready features of the phone, including integration w/ Exchange & IT dept remote enable/disable (ala Blackberry).
Interestingly enough, for the rest of the flight, this person took notes about my complaints (bug reports?) from using my first-gen iPhone, as well as about my Macbook Pro. I think this person was genuine & had a real, early version of the 3G iPhone.
Oh, one more thing: this person said that browsing on the 3G network “screams” and “is very fast”. The plane’s door was already closed when this conversation started, so I did not see the actual browsing speed.
Notice how there’s no reset button on top of the RED version. That’s an obvious indication it’s fake.
Not to mention this “ad” really isn’t Apple’s style that they are so conscious of.
Nothing to see here… Move along… That is ‘definitely’ not it.
Front facing camera for video chat? Kids are going to go crazy for that.
This could be huge, people looking into their iphones for face to face video chats? That would revolutionize the cell phone industry and communications in general. I’m not some crazy Apple fanboy, but put Steve Jobs back on the cover of Time magazine if he creates a mass market for face to face communication with a fluid video feed.
The video phone has been promised for decades. Even if other phones have this feature, the new iphone could be the one to make it a reality. Now I know Monday will be big. Apple is so innovative, it’s scary.
Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake!
does anyone know if the apple store in boston will be first to carry the new ipohnes

Is This the New iPhone? One word answer “No.”
@Michael Arrrington- What phone do you have?
I think this is pretty much guaranteed to be dodgy. Apple aren’t known for letting the cat out of the bag, especially this close to WWDC.
Real or not, AT&T has been dying to release a video phone to the masses since the early ’90s (well before cell phones were commonplace). It’s certainly interesting if the iPhone helps them achieve this goal… if true, I wonder how much of this was AT&T pushing for the feature vs. Apple’s own innovation.
Its hilarious how many (US) people are amazed that Apple might put two cameras on the new iPhone. Nokia, SE, Motorola, LG you name it, have been doing it for years in the rest of the world.
3G is soooo old school
Wow, Even up here in Canada with Rogers, we have like 10-15 phones with video chat with 2 cameras on them. Even entry level phones that go for $20 on a plan have 2 cameras. The LG Prada, Nokia N95, Ericsson K850… All have 2 cameras.. Why would Apple be scared to put a 2nd camera because of the cost?
Umm, no – it’s a fake…FAIL
http://www.enga...re-wwdc-editio/
lol interesting points? the (red) version doesn’t have a power button LOL
only several hours to go
when will the new model come out?? what is the release date?
Assuming it is the new iphone … what do I do with my current iPhone that I got 2 months ago? This is BS, every time I buy something from Apple, they come up with a newer, better version of the same thing after a month. What do I do with my old iPhone?

Dang… I would have liked the red casing.
