Hot off the travel-related press, is news that Jet Blue’s in-flight Wi-Fi service has added support for checking more e-mail accounts than just Yahoo! Mail and BlackBerry Mail, which were previously the only ones available.

[S]tarting today, you’ll be able to check your accounts at Gmail, AOL, Hotmail and Windows Live Mail, too. If your office uses Microsoft Exchange, you’ll also be able to check in with the boss. And JetBlue has also partnered with Amazon.com, in case your online shopping can’t wait until you’ve landed.

  • I wonder why they’ve limited the email access to the known providers, why not all? there might be a deal between JetBlue and all of the above mentioned companies

  • Wow! That is really nice.

#1. Yes, that is a good question. Why only email why not other websites. Is it a deal.

Now, They should start displaying their own ads. Keep one Ad server running on every plane :)

    Cheers, Nag

  • Thats exciting. Full web surfing is just around the corner. It will be great to be able to make better use of the time on a plane.

  • I still wouldn’t fly jet blue. They’d have to do topless to get me to fly their airline.
I pretty much always fly continental.

  • I can’t imagine them opening up the network to non-authorized sites. I can foresee quite a headache for JetBlue if a passenger decides to look up a little pron while they are sitting in coach. Actually, I can see that happening now even with this walled-in garden, as pron is very common in one’s email.

Also what will they do if someone is using this email service to communicate with others on the ground, possibly planning something nefarious? Or what about someone not planning evil but appearing to do so while reading a suspicious email?

Will they be filtering/monitoring these sessions?

  • Great, catching up with the times!!! :P

  • This is cool… but really they should just provide full internet access.

  • Limited amount still! I’m guessing a deal was struck here.

Either way they are catching up on the times…wonder when full access will be available ;)

There was a significant update to the tunecore story yesterday. I posted an email exchange, and it really clears up a lot if you read his response which I posted.

I think Mike was wrong on this one all joking aside.

  • Friggin’ brilliant. Just offer email to entice passengers to try it. Then offer ecommerce sites like Amazon.com where JetBlue can get a commission on sales (online equivalent to SkyMall) . I’m sure JetBlue will offer full web access eventually, but for now this is an excellent compromise.

  • I agree with Phil. They still have some catching up to do.

  • @Steve, Catching up with who exactly? In the US? Vrigin? Um, wrong.

  • OUtstanding way to go Jet Blue. And the price tag for this add on per customer will be how much?

  • I’ve been on their “beta Blue” plane twice now.

The internet connectivity solution is spotty at best. The versions of the mail are VERY limited.

This is WAY not ready for prime time…

  • @Frank – I mean in terms of what people ultimately want. It’s a good step, no doubt, but people want even more than that.

  • If I can’t Twitter, I’m not flying JetBlue!

  • @ 5 (chris) – I’m interested to know why you wouldn’t ever fly jetblue? I’ve always thought they’ve done a pretty decent job. I don’t see an outstanding negative difference between them and continental or any other airline.

    Just curious.

  • I wonder how much they will charge or how they will monetize (online web mall as mentioned earlier)? Most airlines are stripping benefits and looking for ways to create revenue – additional bag, meal upsell, etc.

  • Why not just allow the whole net?

  • The Net Neutrality boys are going to be all over this…

  • I wonder what are the prices of these deals. Or more details about the stake here – how many people travel with BlueJet, how many of them business class and so on. What could be the three main assets won by the players gambling here?

  • @Gary – Good point. You hear so much about how much money the airline industry is losing and yet they are adding things that will cost them even more money. If they can get away with it though, I’m all for it.

    Steve

  • Go JetBlue! I love that airline

  • Totally agree with ‘Murshed ‘. The smaller sites and email providers do not have large budgets such as Gmail, Hotmail etc.

  • I thought windows Live mail was the free desktop application that was the replacement for outlook express, not a mail server like hotmail. Are you sure that’s correct?

  • Nice that one airline gets it!

  • Where is Netflix in all of this!!

On further investigation, I discovered that MR.GEORGE EDWARD did not leave a WILL or NEXT OF KIN and all attempts to trace his Relatives to come for the claim of this fund proved abortive till date. For the past 5 years now, no one has ever come forward to claim the fund.

According to Cote D’Ivoire (IVORY COAST) Laws, at the expiration of 7 (Seven) years, the bank will return the money direct to Central Bank of Cote d’Ivoire if nobody applies to claim the funds. However, my proposal is that I will like to FRONT you as a foreigner to stand in as the Next of Kin to MR.GEORGE EDWARD so that the fruits of this old man’s labour will not get into the hands of these corrupt government officials who might divert the fund direct into their personal pockets at the end of the seven (7) years.

  • Hello,

My name is Sgt.Kennedy Nwan and I am an American Soldier serving in the Military of the 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq. As you know, we are being attacked by insurgents everyday and car bombings. We stumbled into Saddam Hussein’s storage vault and discovered funds belonging to his family. The total amount is US$26.5 Million Dollars. We want to move this money to a reputable/sincere person for investment purposes. This is the reason for contacting you.

We are ready to compensate you with good percentage of the funds. We have shipped the money out of Iraq to a security company in Europe via diplomatic means as Iraq is a war zone. We want you to help us receive the funds into your bank account for purposes of investiments or you can set up a fresh account for this transaction. If you are interested, I will send you more details. We are three colleagues in this business transaction and I was mandated to find a good and respectable partner with great reputation that we can trust.

Can we trust you?. If you want us to trust you, kindly send me an e-mail signifying your interest to this address (darloimade@yahoo.com) and supply me with the following information to enable us continue with all processes regards to this transaction:-
