No mention of GoldMic? It's the largest hip hop social network to date (without VC or celeb backing...which is remarquable enough to get noticed). Check traffic data on Quantcast and compare. Oh well.

Empathy is the ability to identify or sense what another person is feeling. It is like seeing through someone else’ s eyes. Empathy should not be confused with compassion, which is the desire to alleviate the suffering of another, and sometimes contains empathy, but really goes beyond it. You can act compassionately even when you do not empathize with a person’ s emotional state or situation.

Hey nice site. Anyways chess tips. To become good one must learn from ones one mistakes And successes. Chess analysis pro 7000 I found very useful in helping my chess development. I'd recommend it. Next keep the pressure on. And learn to hold the tension on the board instead of running out of tension with no advantage gained.

Well, your prediction on signups was a fraction of what we've already gotten, very sorry to see so many racist comments in this forum (symptomatic of why there's a need for a non-elitist Chess Playing site), and for those who don't know online Chess, the current leader is ICC (not the sites which involved folks are pimping above) and they've got over 30,000 users, most paying about $60 per year for the basic service, and that's for a long outmoded command line type interface. Chess is for the people, and the people will take it back, with the help of easier to use online interfaces.

It's hilarious the blanket concept that pay sites can't work (even as an upsell from free), especially when the experience is way better than other sites with millions of dollars a year in revenue, with traffic driven by a celebrity who sells millions of CDs (which much of this crowd would also claim that noone is spending money on), and when the underlying infrastructure and tech team would be close to impossible to build no matter how much time and money you might be willing to spend. And if you don't want to spend money on WuChess, we offer free accounts on Chesspark, so we're happy to monetize the gameplay whether one wants to pay or not.

Oh and by the way Michael, RZA's coming to San Francisco on June 21st. Care to be beaten at Chess (preferably on a live webcast, in front of a large crowd) by a Hip-Hop Legend? The Mayor of San Francisco turned down this challenge (didn't want to look bad), but RZA's going to be taking the WuChess challenge to 30 plus cities in the next couple of months, and if you take the time to meet RZA , you will come to understand his Midas touch. My hunch is that you're chicken. :-) But you're invited to meet him whether you're willing to be beaten at Chess by him, or not...

There is no demo, but I took the tour: https://www.wuchess.com/tour/ because who wants to pay to play when you can play for free at some of the other sites mentioned, or on facebook (http://apps.facebook.com/chessfb - where I play).

LOL! There are ugly looking ghetto-art pieces instead of normal chess pieces! I'm not a huge huge chess player, but I can't believe anyone who would even remotely like chess would find this anything but a joke. Unbelievably funny. If this were April 1 this story would make much more sense.

My prediction: ~100 subscribers / not enough to cover 50% of development costs.

Thanks for the chuckle, TechCrunch!

this is HIGH-sterical! reminds me of the Wu-Tang financial from the Chappelle Show.

But for both the casual game and for those budding grand masters, Chess.com. When will TechCrunch do a story on the real leader in this space?

My favourite online chess service is Chess Cube . The whole application is built in Adobe Flex, and it won their site of the day, a few weeks ago.

I'm not sure what's more horrifying here -- GoodGuy and Rajiv's racist comments, or Jason Mueller's "We've had great ROI on our black guy." At any rate, I reposted a story on WuChess from another publication, not TechCrunch, as a result.

It's not even racist, it's ignorance. I wonder how many of the commenters above me have actually listed to any of their albums...

With that said, I just don't know about the subscription based model...

@icecream, are you talking about the desert or the shoes?

Considering that the founder/fanboy of Chess.com attended the Hip Hop Chess Federation tournament (later posting dozens of photos online) where RZA won the championship belt, and where hundreds of at risk youth battled with quite a few winning scholarships to improve their educations, it would surprise me quite a bit if post 53 were really from someone affiliated with that site.

But even if it were, our live Chess Play is vastly superior to theirs. :-) So if you want to read a website where people are posting about other people who are actually playing Chess, feel free to visit the site pimped in that post. But if you actually want to play the highest quality Internet Chess using the most advanced Realtime Internet Chess Software, the best places to do so are on Chesspark.com, and related sites such as WuChess.com .

Hope to see you there....
