Man, the site has been overrun by pretentious troll apologists for corrupt and disgraced politicians. Newt was a master organizer but ended playing the self-serving game and demonstrated the usual over-reaching hypocrisy of those too long in power and too close to too much money. There's a reason he left DC years ago. Go read some archived newspapers.

david saintloth, I'm just pointing some things out. Newt can talk all he wants about reforming education, but the people who run education are philosophically prohibited from making the changes that Newt suggested. As I said, I'm just pointing out why. That ain't spam. (And it's not "liberal", the correct description for the people I am talking about are "Modern Liberals" - there is a difference.)

Al,

quit spamming the thread with your anti-liberal propaganda. The answer is not found by labeling , we've had enough of the bloody labels the last few years. And for the last few years at least the predictions of the liberals have actually been right. Though some of what Newt says makes sense (differential education systems is not new(Canada has one), many other western countries have been thriving with such systems for decades..no wonder their average graduate is at least 3 years ahead of an equivalent American IMO), remember all the hell he caused when he was rooting for BC's impeachment over a blowjob??? Also, a lot of his ideas are just bad, the same right wing republican stupidity that has destroyed our economy in the last 8 years. I think too many people remember the evil this guy played 10 years ago to ever give him a chance at president before he keels over of old age. I am sure he's still making his money talking to the zombies though...

sh,

What Newt said about education is exciting (basically profile students and push them into appropriate tracks) but it will never happen. It can't happen as long as Modern Liberals run the school systems. Modern Liberals have to make things equal. That's why valedictorians are a relic of the past at many schools.

Saying that one kid is better than another is racist to them. Determining which kids go into calculus requires judgment and to be discriminate - all of the things that are supposed to be used as tools so our culture advances. But to judge and discriminate (or perform any Socratic thinking) is anathema to them because of their Utopia.

This is why they are trying to say that grades of "F" are worth 50 points - they are trying to make things "more equal."

I am trying to get as many people as I can to understand this stuff. I keep referring to a video on YouTube called "HOW MODERN LIBERALS THINK”. I even referred to it above. In the video, Evan Sayet talks about a "culture of indiscrimitiveness." Basically, we are talking about a Utopia. It's a place where there is no killing, fighting, poverty or injustice. But to get there, everything has to be "equal" - meaning there is nothing left to kill or die for. Or live for. When the anti-war people talk about "peace", this is what they mean. The way to get there, however, is to remove all forms of thinking and judging. Basically, everything is removed so there is nothing left to fight over. This is their peace and they have been working towards this for at least a couple of decades now.

Another example is the poor. Modern Liberals never talk about making the poor richer. It's always about trying to make the rich more poor and then saying that the poor are victims of the rich. Their solution is to make everyone poor (but equal.) When there is no explanation to be found for inequality, then someone is racist.

This same logic applies to the schools, healthcare, dealing with criminals, our national security, energy policy, etc.

Here's the link again. People, find some time to watch this:

Newt's a smart guy, but he could never be president for the personal reasons mentioned above, and the fact that a Republican can't elected without catering to the religious right. One promise he made on the night of the '94 elections was to pass a constitutional amendment mandating school prayer. He wanted to have the vote on July 4th.

He's supportive of Jindal? If all the pundits and people are complaining that Obama is too young at 46, how can they think that Jindal is ready to be just a heartbeat away (and considering McCain's advanced age, that may be a closer heartbeat than anyone fears) at only age 37??? An hw is McCain gonna square with this man a decade younger his preumptive opponent, "an inexpereinced young man"??

I accidently caught a 30 minute speech by NG on CSPAN last month. The topic was education. His delivery and the content matter were exciting and contained many out of the box ideas about education. For example, he said we should identify the really smart kids who do calculus in the 8th grade (or earlier) and push them through high school fast, so they don't get bored, and then move them to college. Give them a $ bonus for early graduation. This will free up our resources at the high school level for the other students. He also mentioned the relationship between work and schooling. It was only in the 20th century that we made education compulsory. We should destigmatize the kids who want to work part time and study because the type of person motivated to work at an early age will eventually keep improving. There were many more ideas. If CSPAN has a library, this talk is worth revisiting.

Will technology solve the problem of helping politicians find a conscience? You know, the kind of conscience that might, say, prevent you from going to the hospital to tell your wife - the lady who just had cancer surgery - that you're leaving her for your secretary?

Another Contract On America? Can we afford it?

When asked about the central components of the Contract, large majorities [of Americans] opposed almost all, notably the central one: large cuts in social spending. Over 60 percent of the population wanted to see such spending increased at the time of the elections. Gingrich himself was highly unpopular, even more than Clinton, whose ratings are very low; and that distaste has only persisted as the program has been implemented.

There was plenty of opposition to Democrats; the election was a "vote against." But it was nuanced. Clinton-style "New Democrats" -- in effect, moderate Republicans -- lost heavily, but not those who kept to the traditional liberal agenda and tried to activate the old Democratic coalition: the majority of the population who see themselves, correctly, as effectively disenfranchised.

But as long as Newt keeps telling me how smart and creative I am, I'm putty in his hands!

Marshall Kirkpatrick, everything should be in English so the Melting Pot can keep moving forward.

The alternative is the "mosaic" - where people don't assimilate and they are stuck in various groups. And we as a country are stuck with many people with hyphens scattered around nearly every description of them - instead of being called Americans.

The Melting Pot is one of the things that makes this country great. The idea is people come in and they want to be Americans. Their culture is added to our culture and the whole culture gets better. An important ingredient, however, is that the worst parts of other people's culture are discarded over time. So we like Italian food, but we don't like the Mafia. Over time, the Mafia part should fade away.

The people in the mosaic crowd want us to keep the Mafia. They call this "tolerance." So we are supposed to be tolerant of behaviors that we don't like. All of the these behaviors fall into "diversity". On the other hand, we are not to notice the differences and, if we do, then we are called racists. By being "tolerant", we get stuck with behaviors that we don't want and therefore separate groups are formed.

One of the key aspects of the Melting Pot is to push people to be able to communicate with each other. This means everyone figures out some English and we don't dumb ourselves down and use other languages - which ends up hurting the very people that we want to help blend in.

The "mosaic crowd", as I called them, are probably "Modern Liberals."
I've been urging people to watch the video "HOW MODERN LIBERALS THINK". When I hear about people saying that it's good to officially support multiple languages in the US, I immediately think "Modern Liberal."
Anyways, this video is fantastic and explains a lot about this philosophy. I've watched parts of it many times now. You'll need some quiet time and watch the Q&A at the end.

What kind of asshole thinks English needs to be declared the official language of the United States? Of all the problems in the world he's going to make a list of ten key solutions and one of them is to deny immigrants government services in their native languages etc.? What practical reason is there to prioritize that at all, much less in a list of top 10 of anything?

Good guy, though he's kind of lost it in the last few years (see Barry Goldwater).

Though I think any future political ambitions he may have are DOA due to his private life. Stick to writing books, Newt.

Neuter Newt.

Smart guy. Has figured out that he is better off never attacking the Clintons.

But, here's an interesting view. Notice where Neuter Newt opened his office - Palo Alto. I can assure you its not east Palo Alto either. On the other hand where did Bill Clinton open up his office - The Bronx. Yes, he opened it up in the hood.

My dear friends that's the difference between a Democrat & Republican. The Republican see the rest of society as the bewildered herd. Remember Plato and the shadows in the caves.

Michael, thank you for taking the time to put together a terrific interview. No matter what side of the political divide you reside on, you have to admit that Newt is one of the most intelligent politicians of our time.
