Michael, why do you see this as a shopping play by Microsoft? Isn't this really just Microsoft attempting to pay users to search at Live Search? MS can't pay them to perform searches or click but they can pay them for this action, buying.

MS is losing to Google in search. Google's success has not been from paying users but from providing better search results. Live Search results still are garbage. Why will paying users for shopping help Live Search gain marketshare? What's the connection?

There are numerous cash back sites. I'll bet that searchers will hear about Live Searh Cashback, see other sites on Google where they search, and sign up for the real sites, not this one that is really about search and not about shopping.

I was writing a round up entry about Tim and Mike discussion about the search market http://themindstorms.blogspot.com/2008/05/idea-does-google-own-search.html, which also touches the MS Live Search.
