Someone, or something, has confirmed to GIZMODO that the 3G iPhone will be released on June 9, the day of the WWDC keynote. (I guess Jobs will be all, “Available… now! Go! Buy, buy buy!”) That’s a more or less worldwide launch date this time, with carriers in other countries able to set the price of the phone and plan, maybe.

not very convincing, as the holiday break at at&t starts on 15th and iphone os2.0 was claimed not to be released before the end of june. but maybe it takes a simple “boom” and it’s released at wwdc too

Hopefully some the performance of some of the iPhone’s other components will be improved is the June 9th version also — 3G doesn’t matter as much to me as having these pages actually draw faster.

one of the earlier rumors was that the Chinese manufacture was told to ‘kit’ the 3G iPhone starting May 31st. This means that the 3G iPhone won’t ship until mid June at the earliest (if the line ramps up well).
Mid June + air shipping puts the street date as around early July.
Mid June + sea shipping puts the street date as around end July.
So — if the original rumor was true, then Mr Jobs might announce on June 9th, but he’s not going to have stock at the Apple store around the corner in San Francisco.
Of course, if the orig rumor was wrong, and they’re building them now, then June 9th is good!
June 9th, is officially Hasan (me) finally gets and iPhone day – mark it on the calenders – it shall be a grand occasion indeed.

what exactly makes this rumor confirmed? some person who gizmodo claims is close to the iphone (is this person on the dev team for the phone, is this person the receptionist of the building where steve jobs works, they don’t say) says it’s coming out on the 9th and all of a sudden it’s “confirmed”.

@Jason: We’ll bloggers usually write more truth and facts than most journalists ever do. Its not just Giz. Yahoo News, Fortune, CNN, Wired and the likes are all writing about this. So the iPhone better be there on June 9th at WWDC – Else the Apple stock is gonna take a nose dive.

I’m sure Steve Jobs finds it flattering to see Microsoft imitate where Apple innovate.
The problem with the HTC Diamond is that it only syncs with Windoze software (Media Player, MS Office, etc.). So it’s completely useless to Apple Mac owners or, indeed, anyone who uses iTunes.
It would probably be released in the UK last. Any idea if it would ever be released on other networks apart from O2?
