Now if they would just quit framing images on image searches. I think this is a horrible practice and now that they are adding ads to the mix it will get even worse.

Or maybe they should start framing text searches to see how many users would revolt and quit using G.

Let me guess... the people who are worried about voluntarily giving select medical information to a "for-profit" corporation are the same ones who would be happy handing over our entire medical system to the government. Yes, government, the entity with a monopoly on the legal use of lethal force.

Yeah, i mean the threat of a 1984 Big Brother-esque situation is a bit scary, i get it. However as long as i have the power of decision i don't think this is much of an issue. And as long as China doesn't take over, i think i'll be okay.

I think that many of you are missing the point. Giving Google the opportunity to anonymously analyze all of this data means that conclusions can be drawn that were never before possible. For instance, let's say Google was updated every time someone got the flu across america. You'd actually be able to see the whole sickness showing up on a map sweeping from NY to Los Angeles in real time. You'd know how fast it was moving, etc. So you could get down a few Airborne pills before it got close. And that's just the beginning.

Who knows, maybe they'll make relations between certain jobs or lifestyles and some sort of cancer. I know this sounds a bit over the top, but i really think this is where the technology is headed. It's like having on-demand medical advice. It will take some time before any of this ever surpasses an actual doctors medical advice, but i'm glad Google is undertaking such projects and look forward to future innovations based on this product.

I mean just think of all of the potential dis-orders or diseases that get the wrong diagnosis each year. There must be tens of thousands, if not millions. A human doctor doesn't have the ability to interpret millions of case studies and millions of potential diseases/viruses/sicknesses/etc. Google Health will. And if you sign up, you're helping the process. And no, i don't work for Google.

I fail to see how Google Health is "secure." They offer no option to protect your account other than a password.

I find it interesting that all of the major web companies have great security (tokens, smart cards, fingerprint readers, etc...) for their own corporate networks yet give us consumers nothing (not even an option).

You can put the best alarm/security system on your house, but if you leave the front door open, it's worthless. That is the equivalent to passwords on the internet. They are the access point (front door) to everything you put on the web.

I love how paranoid people (who proclaim they are more educated on the issue) are about their medical records, when a) they already "give" such information to insurance companies, hospitals, and drug companies and such information is already shared on exchanges and b) the knowledge that you've had hemorrhoid operations or your blood tests is oh so much more important than what you've been buying recently.

Medical science would probably be advanced a lot more if academics could run studies on vast historical patient data (which can be anonymized) to find out which treatments worked, which didn't, which factors were complicated, which hospitals or doctors kill you the most.

I could care less if people knew my medical records, it's not like you wouldn't be able to guess I had high cholesterol if you saw me in public. The issue is how people can discriminate against you based on those records, primarily by denying you access to health care based on pre-existing conditions.
