_"...when ZoHo allows me to sign in using Google credentials, how much info about me does ZoHo get to see and save? .. "_

@smcnally,

Zoho uses a secure way of "Sign In" using Google/Yahoo ! by directly redirected to the corresponding sites for authentication. Zoho does not have access to user's Google / Yahoo! password. Zoho never stores it.

"The tortured PRspeak rivals the current Bush Administration press officer's gyrations in denying our idiot president's appeasement charges are about Obama, while John McCain drives the Straight Talk Express over the Democratic nominee as he eats a hot dog on the campaign trail."

WTF?!

What do you say you leave your snarky political comments for political sites -- unless you'd care to discuss in greater detail the airheaded proposal by Barrak Hussein Obama to conduct diplomatic talks with terrorist states like Iran, the same pinheaded position which convinced him Bush was referring to him when warning against appeasement. Bush never mentioned him, but he insists "When You Say Appeasement, You're Talking Barrak Hussein Obama"

If you want to write only for those readers who share your mean-spirited political views keep the sophomoric commentary slipped into your work. If you'd care not to offend large portions of your potential audience, as you have me, I suggest you stick to the things you know about.

I really think that openID and OpenSocial are the way of the future, not because it is Goolge, it is just more practical. It is hard enough for a developer to submit its widget or application to one platform or one social network, it is a lot harder to submit it to many, OpenID and OpenSocial solves that. When Facebook deny its use, it is only slowing them down and decrease their popularity.

Hi Steve (#67),

Why the obsession with using a real name? Shouldn't my advice/criticisms stand on their merits?

You won't know who I am and I have reasons unrelated to you for remaining anonymous.

You are in a position of influence at TC - a top 5 blog - but are not serving it well with posts whose main purpose seem to be "look at me, please like me." I think insecurity drives a lot of blogging but it's not worthy of the leading technology blog with nearly a million readers.

Steve, it's nothing personal. People are actually trying to help you in the latest round of comments, but your attacks on them indicate you are not interested in changing. I think that will be the last straw; Mike and Heather are likely too protective of the TC brand to let their readers endure that for long.

I hope you learn to introspect and accept criticism better. I think it will make you a better blogger. You may also find that you won't need to dance in verbal circles for people to appreciate you.

Steve-

You detract from any rational argument you try to make when you descend to thoughtless throwaway slurs ('Alzheimers standard'?) and pointless political tangents (OK, so everyone hates Bush; and that is relevant here how?). Get your shit together and do a little self-editing before firing off. One can be insightful and even entertaining without being insulting.

BTW, I hope to hell you never have a loved one who wastes away from Alzheimers, you nimrod.

I'm glad Facebook locked out Google so that my friending and commenting through Facebook doesn't have to show up on Google searches unless I opt-*in*.

Is this perfect? Oh, probably not, because some hackers hack into it and people like Scoble port you over to Plaxo -- and it's not clear, for example, whether the sudden mailed offer of a $5 subscription to Fast Company magazine coming afterwards comes from the Scoble scrape, or what? It doesn't matter really. It's the payback for having friended Scoble in the first place to mine all his friends' lists -- unless you have a big player to mine in these services, it can be very hard to get started and have an interesting feed.

Do I care if FB then mines all my data *itself* while protecting me from Google and then sells me strategically to pay for itself and make a profit?

Guess what, I don't. They should have a checkoff box when I sign up -- "Do you mind if we send you third-party offers" but -- hey, it's probably not vital. I don't mind if FB extracts this from me and pitches ads to me now and then based on keywords or graphs or gestures or who the hell cares.

What I *do* mind is the endless parade of geeky widgeteers hacking and scraping my data and porting everything out just because they force-friended me or are friend-of-friend.

See, Steve, you just aren't in touch with normal people and won't listen to them when they explain these things to you. Normal people don't mind a little giving and a little paternalism from a company like FB they join if it protects them from over-exposure -- that's a very different ceding of privacy than having every geek in the universe screaming for data portability just so they can have their little start-up.

Tut, tut. Gobbledegook as a response to a clear critique of your writing is a loser. But, enough about you. You never will get it.

Hi Steve (@ #60),

1. If you read my original post, it had less to do with the validity of the point and more with the style - it's long-winded, hard to read, and strives to show how smart you are instead of how smart the opinion is.

A historical strength of Techcrunch is that articles are often accessible and say much with little. Clear writing represents a clear mind.

2. I'm not sure Google is available to answer that question but I'm decently "technical" and believe your point is about business strategy. Interesting that you're asserting otherwise; see #1 about a clear mind.

I agree that Google is smart to be more open than Facebook, especially since Google doesn't have a social network. I agree Facebook is in a potential bind, but it's unclear Google has proven leverage yet.

OpenSocial is not yet a fertile ground for developers and Facebook users haven't yet shown a willingness to leave en masse for a Google or Google-affiliated partner. A post examining those scenarios would be interesting.

Footnote to Mike or Heather: To grow Techcrunch's audience - and keep its existing ones who don't have time to find their Gillmor decoding ring - here's a vote for stricter editorial standards.
