I like TC and Wired, but professionalism.. or not stooping to someone elses low is nice. I only read half the article because I figure if you can't say anything nice.. or at least not air out your dirty laundry in public then I don't want to read it. Too much of that stuff on tv with all the celebutants, just expected more from Tech Crunch and Wired.

@ Charlie Prince: I completely agree with you - but I would point out that we don't even hold politicians to that level of scrutiny (even though we should) and - imo - as long as we are aware that conflicts exist, we may not get any better than that.

Frankly I would rather know about a conflict when reading a story than read a story that later I find out was completley fabricated (As seems to happen in established media from time to time). Moreover I think we would be kidding ourselves to believe that this type of conflict doesn't exist in places like WP and elsewhere just because those journalists don't own the company stock.

As far as Steve Ballmer goes we could probably walk away from his reporting best informed because we understand his motivation so well. We often don't have this perspective when viewing other sources of information beit written by Apple fanboys or linux prophets or Microsoft haters etc, you see my point.

@ those terminating their Wired subscription

Good luck. You can stop payment on your subscription, but the mag will continue to arrive. They are desperately in need of eyeballs.

Rather than burning the mag, enter it in their return to sender contest.

Well, what more can we expect from Mike Arrogant. I read the articles that are quoted too and I agree with Jackson's post above. So, now we know that Mike Arrogant cannot take criticism and resorts to obscene language.

Oh, well. This is his low point and what about his conflicts of interest....

Well, Time thinks he can make or break a startup. Time also put Putin as the man of the year too.... So, what more can we expect.

Very entertaining! The fact is, when it comes to technology, Wired never gets it right. Wired is all about two things, profit and liberalism.

P.S. Bruce Sterling writes and looks like a lesbian grandmother, not a dig just accurate.

Somebody with more free time on their hands than myself head to that CJR link I posted above and click on Advance Publications. Advance owns Conde Nast which owns Wired. It all gets a little complicated, since Wired print and Wired.com were in the hands off different owners from '98 - '06, but Wired.com was bound to print the mags articles despite that.

I guarantee it'll be hard to find where Wired mentions Advance's interest / investment in properties that were subject's of articles. Discovery communicatons for instance? Time Warner cable? (owned jointly by TW & Advance from '95 - '02) Just look at that list of Advance properties, plenty to pick from...

Mike, here's a great link to get a look at all of the incestuous relationships in media today. http://www.cjr.org/resources/

How many of these outlets disclose their corporate ties to their interview subjects to the viewing / reading public? Very few...

I'd pat you on the back for being so good about disclosing, but then you're just doing what everyone ought to be doing in the first place.

Wanker, Abbot and Karim all have it spot on (other than my not so humble self).

It's nice to read posts by people who can write, too. You can hear their intelligence on the screen.

The writing on TC is often voluminous and lazily done, but the information is interesting.
