Tomorrow Yahoo will launch a partnership with McAfee and will integrate their Site Advisor malware scanning product into Yahoo search.
The most dangerous websites are simply being removed from search results. Yahoo is also flagging less dangerous offending sites to warn users of specific problems that have been reported from those sites. Example warning messages include “Warning: Unsolicited E-mails” and “Warning: Dangerous Downloads.”
Site Advisor’s core product is a Firefox Add On that provides similar warnings to users. It’s similar to Haute Secure, which we have covered in the past. The Add On has been downloaded 135 million times, says McAfee.
The new feature is optional for Yahoo search users, although the default is set to on.

That would be useful..
comScore is marked as a malicious site on siteadvisor

“Comscore/Marketscore is a known provider of what some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs. Use caution before downloading from this site.”
Awesome idea, I remember when I saw it first on Google’s results. It looks like it let’s the user actually click the link into the site instead of copy/paste’ing it.
Search for “free screensavers” on yahoo.com to see that in action.

Michael:
Once again, saw you on Charlie Rose today. Awesome!
You are the “go-to-guy” for the technology sector on the show!
Keep up the good work.
Had been using McAfee Site Advisor addon in FF for a long time, it helps me narrow down my search.
But a single addon will work in Yahoo, Google, and maybe many more search engines.
Anyway, Yahoo is improving, and the integrated Site Advisor will help people who don’t want to install an addon or use other browser or not so tech savvy.
Call me crazy but what’s a bet that Live will be announcing the very same capability in the next few weeks
Google is already doing that, however Yahoo should make sure not to flag a site with no malware by mistake.
HauteSecure provides MUCH better information when browsing Yahoo/Google.
Clearly Yahoo is once again doing the wrong thing, huh Assington?
They should use a Google solution, or a Microsoft one, or just sell themselves to Microsoft because your shares are down and your cigar budget is at an all-time high.
You fail at all but ass kissing.
I like how the link title subtly suggests a connection between “Dangerous Downloads” and MSN, while clearly indicating an unrelated domain if it ever came to finger-pointing!
Really a great idea.
I am not sure if Yahoo has come up with any upgrades since this one over the past year and a half. I am glad to see that the Yahoo search engine is still around. Occasionally Yahoo gets innovative ideas before Google (such as expanding operations to Dubai in U.A.E before Google set up offices in Cairo, Egypt). I would like to see Yahoo take back some of their old market share.
