MySocial 24×7 Launches FriendFeed/ Twitter AIR App

mysocial.jpgMySocial 24×7, a Friend Feed/ Twitter Firefox sidebar Michael wrote about in April has launched an Adobe AIR application.

Like the Firefox sidebar, the AIR app allows users to filter the view by type of data, comment or bookmark any entry, and users can also reply via Twitter.

The big selling point for the new app is an inbuilt movie/picture viewer, allowing users to view content without the need to revert to a browser window.

Hands on its definitely one of the nicest looking desktop apps in this space, content is rendered clearly and attractively, compared to say Twhirl which isn’t super pretty out of the box. The app though does lack many of the features that have made Twhirl popular, such as click support for direct messaging in Twitter, color customization, and easy access to archives and user details. In its defense it is an alpha release, and not all users will want for the extra features provided by Twhirl. Definitely worth a look if you’re a Twitter and FriendFeed user.

    Really don’t like it. There are scroll bars on the Everyone button. Plus while it does show my posts neither the Friends or Twitter sections work. Both give “Problem with …” errors. Still looking for the ‘perfect’ desktop client. I like Twhirl better than Alert Thingy, but it’s very unstable. FF’s web page is still the best way to follow it… for me anyway. Thanks for the alert on the new app though. Very much appreciated.

    Don’t forget about the wonderful Twitter AIR app by Jonathan Snook called Snitter. I’m using it now, and really digging the design and functionality of it. Very cool app.

    Alert Thingy’s lack of ability to ‘play in window’ is most annoying to me. I hate being forced to surf away…will try this, but hope AT will include this soon.

    I have to disagree. This client is not very good. Connecting to the very services that it claims to supports did not work out of the box. The interface was boring and looked rushed. I could have dealt with the unpolished looked if the app worked better than Twhirl. Oh Well.

    Some comments about Twhirl and Alert Thingy. It works great, but it is a memory hog. I would like to see them merge FF and Twitter into the same window. I think that would be a much tighter stream of consciousness, and save on screen real estate. I found that Alert Thingy had and issue with sorting Friend Feed updates properly. That bothers me, so I stopped using it. Hopefully they have it fixed now.

    Lastly, I found a client called Spaz. http://funkatron.com/spaz. It does not have the FriendFeed support, but its light on the Memory usage. It is also skinnable, but I find it to be attractive out of the box. The only problem I have had with it, is the default update time for Twitter was too short, so you get a message back from Twitter complaining about too frequent updating. This was fixed by going into the settings and changing the update time to be between 6 and 10 seconds.

    I disagree. MySocial is a great start and it can only improve. I like it enough to close Twitterific and Alert Thingy.
