eFORCE Global Acquires gBox

eFORCE Global Inc. has acquired gBox, the music store that allows users to create embeddable “Wish Lists” and buy DRM-free songs as gifts for friends.

eFORCE is a provider of professional eBusiness services with a focus on RoI. Under new ownership, gBox will continue to offer its music store and wishlist widgets, which we covered last year. gBox will also begin to offer a whitelabel version of the widget that will allow major online brands to label and sponsor these wishlists.

The details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, but it is reported to have been a cash and equity deal (more equity than cash). gBox lauched in 2007, and is headed by Tammy Artim, Rajen Bose, Elmar Jakoby, and Saji Johnson.

    How are these guys able to compete (or any other music store for that matter) with iTunes? I believe iTunes also has wish lists, same as Amazon’s music service.

    purchase price is probably cash on hand minus closing costs - similar to when you pay a towtruck to haul your car to the junkyard.

    I don’t see what the big appeal of a “wishlist” widget is. So now I need some obscure Internet doohickey to keep track of the music I want to purchase? Last time I checked I had more than two functioning brain cells to do this.

    What would make you believe that the new gBox/eForce team can create a white label version of the service and turn a profit on the idea? The “winter special” on the gbox.com home page is still going on… they can’t seem to be able to update even a simple graphic on the home page. Also, the merchandizing on the site is stagnant and the choice of music is limited (unless you like Indy music). Home page merchandising hasn’t changed in months. I’ll stick with my Amazon wish list on Facebook. More digital music and physical goods to wish for. gBox: may for force be with you!
