Arrington Finally Makes It Onto The Cover of Time (If You Squint Real Hard You’ll See Him)

time-100-small.pngTime magazine has come out with its annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. You’ve got your Tony Blair, Rupert Murdoch, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg. All the usual suspects. Digg CEO Jay Adelson squeezes onto the list, as does our own Michael Arrington as the token blogger. (See full list here).

The way the list is put together is that Time tries to get one famous person to write about another. So you have Craig Newmark on Zuckerberg, Guy Kawasaki on Steve Ballmer, and Arianna Huffington on Arrington (how apropos).

Congratulations to one and all. Can you find Michael on the cover at right? (Click to enlarge). Neither could I at first, but he’s there. Hint: Look for the profile in silhouette. At least, I think that’s him.

    I hate to be the “that looks photoshopped” guy…

    On the upside, Mike nailed the “I dare you to try to sue me over a movie screening” look. I wish I could look that hardcore.

    With all due respect to Mike, any list that includes Rem Koolhaas (the designer of some of the ugliest and most useless buildings in the world) is not a list anyone should strive to be on.

    Why yes, I am an IIT grad who had to watch a construction site for 3 years, only to be glad to have graduated before KoolHaas’ monstrosity was finished.

    How many people can be considered in the same company as Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama? Heck, Al Gore isn’t even on the list.

    It would be interesting to count how many in the top 100 come from tech/online? I suspect that a fair number do. This would be an indicator, albeit at an unquantifiable macro level, of how much enabling technologies are having an impact. Everyone knows that the impact is likely significant, but a count might be an interesting anecdotal number.

    I think Micheal did a great job and I read techcrunch a few times every day. In my mind, however, he bearly makes top 100,000. I know a Chinese guy who spent whole life working with farmers and basically doubled or tripled world rice productivity. But even most Chinese do not know him..
