I was able to get better results for a much cheaper price while advertising on ASK instead of Google. It will be a shame if they go solely to Google. I hope they only use Google to backfill.

@jenkins - It's a business with $30MM+ in quarterly operating income. What exactly constitutes a business "success" in your book, if not the generation of material cash flow?

There is a misconception by some concerning Ask's ad revenues.

Ask uses Google to backfill what they cannot sell on their own. Ask Sponsored Listings is their platform. They lease the platform from LookSmart, at least through 2008.

Set up an account at Ask and be seen (IAC) systemwide. Typically Ask takes the top three sponsored ad spots and Google beyond. When Ask cannot sell a top sponsored spot they fill with AdWords.

It's sad to see a company of this size having to rely soley on Google to survive. Monetizing your own business is key to success on the web.

Ryan is correct tho Ask is/has tried to develop their own advertiser base. I think they are dumping that plan going forward.

Hasn't Ask already been outsourcing its ads to Google for years now? I think what happened was they got a *better* deal with Google than they previously had so they got more money from Google (per search or whatever), that's all.
