We’ve got even more to give away today. Wix has set aside 1,000 spots for TechCrunch readers who want to give its website/widget creation tool a spin.
When I reviewed Wix last week, I called it cluttered and candy-coated. The promotional video below shows a tamer, yet still very colorful, side of the service.

Still not sure how this widget svc could be used effectively. I’m not a fan of any of the widget services.
The problem is, that “wix” and “wix(e)r” are very very bad names in German…
Already got into Wix, it’s not that amazing.
I have been playing around with this site since Friday and it is simply awesome!
The real problem is
such tools never results in professional solutions.

I prefer real sex as well.
Reg form not accepting my birthday…
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wix
Wait, so the Microsoft open source windows XML installer team has now moved to Israel to create a bubble 2.0 website?
Now I’m confused.
Same as #7, birthday is not accepted. Also had to copy&paste the @-symbol in the E-Mail field, as the usual ALT-GR+q didn’t work. Weirdest sign up form ever!

Doesn’t this constitute prior art on the WiX name for the programming and internet services class of trademark?
I’m not a fan of Microsoft, but in all fairness, they used the mark in commerce for computers and web way first.
crap ui
@esther: You win!
An internet application called “Wix”? What’s next? A car called Pajero? Oh wait…
The UI is a horrible mess, javascript errors abound, and I can’t get even the simplest of links to work as expected.
Even the login form has mysterious fields appear when trying to tab between form fields.
I want to like this, but it’s just too dreadful yet for serious consideration. Maybe MySpace users can find something to like…
Wixen (to wix) means to masturbate in German xD
Setting aside matters of the German language , this is probably the best looking online application I have ever seen.
I just started looking into it a few hours ago, and am amazed both by the design and the diversity of it.
Am planning on making my first ever website with it tonight.
Looks like a good product but I can’t even complete registration. First, it complained that my username was too short. After fixing that issue, it’s saying that I need to enter my birthdate. But that’s already entered, and even after re-typing it the same error message prevents me from signing up.
You have to wonder about a company that can’t get the bugs out of signup. (If anyone is reading these message, my platform is Win XP - FF 2)
Same problem with birthday. Not accepted.
I thought the tag line was “flash free” websites, and I thought that was a great idea.
I’m really excited for the day that people stop using flash as a web design tool.
shitti registration form, old news (got user ages ago), yet the product is *AMAZING*
cheers
First birthday not excepted and when I canceled out and went back there was no way to scroll the country list to get to United States…
Awesome tool this is! For somebody who is not great with Flash, this really helps.
I’m with everyone who has the birthday registration issues.
Annnd Its kinda lame.
very great tool. The only problem is the name…. in German as Josh mentioned above.
three cheers from someone in the design community! now i can stop bugging my tech friends to help me with this kind of thing.
Who are these products for? Do people actually have a entry level website design and development problems? Myspace, Blogger, Ning, Wordpress, Dreamweaver, etc…. Everyone I meet wants a unique presence on the web based on standards. Not a weird template based proprietary website. That market is well served.
Just because you have the means to build something doesn’t mean you should bet the farm on it. Maybe it can be useful to kids — but all the tweens can figure out MySpace code so I think this is beneath them as well. Cool. But I doubt it will catch on.
That’s cool. Thanks
This is definitely not “the way the web should be”, as their motto states.
looked at this a couple of days ago and the GUI looks like pokemon went on a 3 day bender and then threw up.
i can’t foresee myself using it.
I don’t see myself using this either. Maybe more for the myspace crowd thing.
Not that there is not a market for this, I’m just not part of it I guess.
In German, interesting idea but I don’t understand the need? There are so many web apps that may help you create a site as well as the open source movement and the widget frameworks available out there for the creation of widgets. Is this site’s model mainly advertising?
This is horrible. I actually find it unpleasant to use. I think I started hating it when I realised that, on the login form, pressing TAB after entering my email address didn’t move to the password field, it went somewhere else. That’s pretty basic stuff.
If you’ve got a rubbish product that’s easy to use, or a good product that’s hard to use, or even a good product that’s easy to use, you’re onto something. This is none of these things.
Pile of Wix.
agree with Jez. The screencast of the site is way more impressive then the actual site. Interface is horrible, inconsistent and toxic. Yet, I’m not a 12 year old girl….
I need one invitation please, please PLEASEEEEEEE
