This is a quite good strategy if we look at why it’s intended. This looks like everything people were expecting plus a little extra. This is pushing the boundaries of both social and search. Truly moving towards the open Internet where there are no private sandboxes...

Absolutely big news in the industry. Yahoo! is quite ambitious since the time they acquired flickr and delicious. It's bad that MS has been trying to intervene the operation of Yahoo! in the past year which must have been frustrating to these guys.

Terra, let's be fair about this.

Look at the dates on these comments - the one immediately before your own is on April 28th. Neither the author of this article nor the people commenting on it knew what would happen on October 16th.

The people who are reading this article now are going to be the people who were linked here from Melissa's Y!Profile blog.

However, I am in agreement with you. Since 2005, it appears as though that the Yahoo!Chat administration has making bad decision after bad decision with an almost murderous gleam in its eye.

Let's also remember that roleplayers are not the only endangered species here. Yahoo is a threat to ANY and ALL social organizations of any kind that depend upon its services.

I'm sorry but are you people insane? or just paid by Yahoo?

This is not a good idea, this is not what its users want. If we wanted a social network then we would be on Facebook or Myspace... or better yet we would be out in the REAL WORLD! If Yahoo wants to make some bass ackwards sorry excuse for a social network thats fine, but we should not be forced to use it. I for one don't want other people pestering me unless its for roleplay. Even then I want the right to choose. It should be my choice as to who I can see and talk to and hang around on yahoo not theirs. This new system violates my privacy, my trust, and my faith that Yahoo knows what they want. I am not alone on this either, as within the span of four days almost two thousand comments have cropped up on their own blogs, the vast majority of which are very negative.

This change takes away the key things that many users liked about Yahoo. It makes groups clunky and akward, takes away the last good Roleplaying chat client, and will force many people to share aspects of their life they do not wish to with those close to them and are leaving many more people exposed to various things they may not wish to be.

This new direction is dangerous to people, is counter productive to group owners and group members, and quite frankly has further bloodied the roleplay community on Yahoo.
