ReviewGist.com Collates and Snips Reviews
by John Biggs on April 24, 2008

Sites like ReviewGist are great for consumers but not so great for gadget bloggers. By collecting a number of reviews and adding on meta-date like price and features, they automatically create collections of data what are actually quite useful when shopping and, unlike something like Amazon.com, offer more in-depth information than standard user-generated reviews.

ReviewGist is similar to Wize.com and Compete but the creator, Nishant Soni, says:

Our scope might seem similar to Wize.com but we analyze reviews much deeper and try to understand what aspect/part of the product is the reviewer rating good or bad. This deeper semantic analysis then enables our rating algorithms, product comparison and recommendation tools.

  • So far I always get irritated by review and comparison sites showing up when I search for a gadget in google. Usually it turns out that there are actually no reviews for what I am looking for and the ones that are there are unspecific hate or love comments. To top it off the price comparison directs me to some obscure retail site that I’ve never heard off and that doesn’t have the item in stock.
Let’s hope that this will be a real innovation over the above experience.

PS Just eating a toast with Nutella and wanted to spare you that sight, otherwise I would have done it as a video *smile

  • how about a link to the reviewgist site, and not just their competitors…

  • Interesting … i like the bar graph interface. Thats something which impresses me. i can easily make out … How Sony DSC H9 compares me Canon S5 on picture quality.

The colors need some work, everything seems just blue.

    PS: I bought DSC H9 :(

  • How can it be 50% positive if there are three reviews?

    ReviewGist FOR THE FAIL!!!1!

  • Actually, 50% positive is a sentiment scale – not based on the total number of reviews, but actually on a much detailed analysis based partly on :
    1. The total number of opinions expressed in the reviews.
    2. The nature of opinions – ranging from extremely positive to extremely negative.
    3. The aspect/part of the product being talked about in the opinion – eg. is the opinion talking about the image capabilities of a camera(more important) or is it talking about the battery life (less important).

  • I think the site will be deadpooled based on the sole fact that its based out of india. Won’t get the necessary traction

  • How come you never covered Omgili? They have reviews section (where they aggregate reviews and sentiment from multiple sites), not talking about the discussion search on millions of forums/mailinglists/newsgroups, reviews and QnA sites…
I did a search on Techcrunch – not one word…
Also apparently they are quite big, so they must be doing something good :)

  • Andrew, I agree to you that having presence in the US is good for getting traction. We do correspond almost regularly with people living in the US and specifically in the valley to get their inputs in – Parts of our interface were done by a very talented student from stanford.

Also, we do plan to set up some presence in the US pretty soon.

  • Mr Jaspreet @3 needs to fake a review in a better way. Just posting good reviews of a site because founder is college friend from IIT Guwahati.

  • Or how about review site http://www.LouderVoice.com. They allow you to review form your mobile and have twitter integration.

  • This site will only be as good as the reviews that are available to them. Unfortunately, I find that many of the existing sites out there with product reviews (CNET, ConsumerReports, etc) are woefully behind when it comes to staying current with products available on the market. Case in point, I purchased a 52″ Sony Bravia LCD and was not able to locate a review using this site. I think this site is a good starting point, but I think audiences can be led to believe the site is a one stop shop for aggregating all reviews for all available products that are available on the market.

  • As i understand, Omgili just searches and shows comment. stupid.
wize is very good and shows wize rank.
reviewgist shows review aggregation and competitive analysis.

I get the point, i guess an average consumer would really be happy with Wize Rank. Yup, some might want to dig further on individual features.
    Nice.

    site does not work….

  • Hey http://bjthelabmonkey.com not only reviews products but gives them away as well. Not your typical review site…I know (shameless plug) although Loudervoice is interesting but I didn’t find much content. Good looking site all the same.

  • Here is another great review of reviewgist: http://www.plug...st-and-accurate

  • Very nice and simple comparison tool….good job guys.
Hope you will be able to attract content.
