Twitter Trends: Twist

The popularity of Google Trends, which lets users compare the relative popularity of words and phrases based on the quantity of search queries on Google over time, is starting to spawn similar services based on different data sets. Facebook now has Lexicon (launched April 15), which shows trends based on Wall posts.
Twitter doesn’t have an official in house trends product of their own, but Flaptor just released one called Twist. Like the related Google and Facebook services, Twist looks at mentions of the queried terms in messages and graphs them over time. Users can also click on any of the terms and go directly to the recent Twitter messages containing that term.
Flaptor also has a good Twitter search tool, as well as a number of other projects.
Brand owners, researchers and others are always looking for more data, and these tools are very useful for that. Startups like Scout Labs are also emerging to help aggregate and make sense of as much of this data as possible. My guess is we’ll see them integrate as much of it as possible.

So awesome. it’s amazing how many web apps are popping up around Twitter.
That will help webmaster to find buzzy and search engine friendly domain names.
Probably because an extremely popular blog keeps writing about them.
That’s really interesting. More disparate bravenet like js. I hope it actually helps somebody do something.
BTW, I was checking out the seesmic video from the tree startup yesterday, and I noticed the bed in your office was unmade.
I already wrote it somewhere, but might as well repeat myself. Such powerful socil applications, aggregating so much interaction data could (should) make tons of money by selling this data to marketers, companies etc.
This is great news for Twitter as obviously it shows the tremendous consistent growth in their tool but yes these companies could make a fortune by selling this information to marketers etc. Overall it may benefit most parties involved.
Twitter is doing a great job…….will it give a tough competition
it’s cool and Twitter is so hot now.
very cool !
Techcrunch become TechTwitter. One more Twitter news, What’s happeneing with Twitter?
there should be some way of getting a unified view of all this, - Google trends, Lexicon, Flaptor etc. Marketers will find it easy to research their brand.
Hi, great job!
Test this:

Trends aren’t just what’s totally totally hip, there’s also a longevity with regards to a trend.
What this graph tells me is that Twitter is hipper (more popular?) than Facebook?
I still don’t buy that Twitter is very popular outside of early adopters and the geek/tech community. Is it?
How about allowing to search data via asking a question like, “How many people use their cell phone as an alarm clock vs. a room alarm clock?”. The tool then understands your question and reads all the twitter data to create pie charts and graphs.
Thanks for making that… will save us money on market research!
This is Diego Basch from Flaptor, thanks for all the good feedback!
To #13, Twitter is more popular than Facebook in terms of Twitter posts! If you look at Facebook data, the trends will be much different.
Is it just me, or is TC in bed with Twitter? We here so much about them its crazy.
::Twitter Uses Own Facilities::
Today an unnamed software engineer was seen leaving the mens restroom at Twitters corporate offices. Estimates place it at 20-25 sheets used. This may be confirmed by the fact that Indian food was served at lunch today…
I’d like to see a tool where I can type in a company name or stock symbol and view trend data for positive or negative mentions for stock buy/sell decisions and market research. Trend data viewed in the context of related content would be highly valuable to financial traders and marketers alike.
Smart companies are also using these tools as early warning systems to avoid PR disasters.
How about a tool to show trends in keywords mentioned in comments left on blogs or websites?
an.. facebook launched a similar one ..
The search function doesn’t seem to work for me. Im accessing it from India. Is there a problem or is it only specific to India?
