The only problem I see with using @trendingtopics is it doesn't say anything itself. The great masses who don't have mobile web browsers see nothing but a name, a wiki link, and an article link.

Hey very nice article, thanks a lot.

For those who want a simpler way to follow twitter trending topics, I just found a small website providing a RSS feed. Here it is : http://www.twitter.trends.free.fr

Thanks again!

I'm sure it will a matter of time before Google makes a change in their trend reporting or penalize sites as they did for link buying.

Twist has a new version out, with important improvements. The white background makes it easier to read the graph and text, the peaks for the hot topics are shown graphically, and you can see tweets for the topics in the graph in the same page, without having to click. There is also more data displayed (when hot topics became hot, for example). This makes the site much more useful, while still remains simple to use.

I'd like to see a tool where I can type in a company name or stock symbol and view trend data for positive or negative mentions for stock buy/sell decisions and market research. Trend data viewed in the context of related content would be highly valuable to financial traders and marketers alike.

Smart companies are also using these tools as early warning systems to avoid PR disasters.

How about a tool to show trends in keywords mentioned in comments left on blogs or websites?

::Twitter Uses Own Facilities::

Today an unnamed software engineer was seen leaving the mens restroom at Twitters corporate offices. Estimates place it at 20-25 sheets used. This may be confirmed by the fact that Indian food was served at lunch today...

This is Diego Basch from Flaptor, thanks for all the good feedback!

To #13, Twitter is more popular than Facebook in terms of Twitter posts! If you look at Facebook data, the trends will be much different.

How about allowing to search data via asking a question like, "How many people use their cell phone as an alarm clock vs. a room alarm clock?". The tool then understands your question and reads all the twitter data to create pie charts and graphs.

Thanks for making that... will save us money on market research!

Trends aren't just what's totally totally hip, there's also a longevity with regards to a trend.

What this graph tells me is that Twitter is hipper (more popular?) than Facebook?

I still don't buy that Twitter is very popular outside of early adopters and the geek/tech community. Is it?
