Seattle-based TeachStreet, which we covered yesterday, has now gone live - they “flipped the switch” a couple of hours ago.
For now they are bridging real world classes to their website in Seattle only. If you live up there, you may want to check out your local cooking, dog obedience, or yoga courses.

Hey Mike, your hyperlink is wrong. It’s http://www/teachstreet.com change the / into .
Good site, May be it will be usefull for locals.
>>>…you may want to check out your local cooking … courses.<<<
Another source for food and wine courses is: http://www.localwineevents.com/
niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
april fools?
Wait a minute, an actual useful service? I don’t believe it.
Clear value prop. Clear monetization strategy. Simply UI and concept.
Two big thumbs up.

We will be launching a service in this space in the near future. If you are interested, then please keep an eye on nixty.com in the coming weeks.
Congrats to Dave and the entire TeachStreet Team! Great site and UI!
dave schappell is one of the most impressive startup entrepreneurs i’ve ever had the pleasure to be involved with, and a good friend as well.
he made me laugh with his work at JibJab, made me proud of his efforts at Unitus, and made me compete hard against him when he was at Amazon (and i was at PayPal/eBay). very happy to be on the same side of the table with him now at TeachStreet as an investor & advisor.
best of luck to him & the team, looks like things are off to a great start!
Maybe some site SEM to help draw folks away from Googling directly to teachers/instructors?
Local lesson advertising have been screaming to move beyond hand-scrawled flyers on telephone poles, and TeachStreet sounds like it will be the perfect online solution.
Having had the pleasure of working with Dave before, I have no doubt that his passion, intelligence and user focus will lead to a phenomenal site.
Onward!
It’s comical how my previous comment on the other article got deleted because I pointed out the fact that TechCrunch was FACTUALLY INCORRECT and was not actually announcing TeachStreet’s financing because Seattle PI and PE Week Wire had covered it weeks ago.
This second article in two days makes me wonder about two things:
1. Why is TechCrunch so afraid of being pointed out for being wrong?
2. What is TeachStreet paying TechCrunch to be featured twice in two days?
James, they consistently remove comments that are not in their best interests.
James - nobody cares about what you care about.
Jason - you’re right.
MikeW - true. What’s funny though is that Arrington said the only thing he cares about being is “right” and he is wrong quite often.
Waiting for this comment to be deleted too.
Love the idea. This will definitely promote more knowledge sharing among people. I wonder why nobody thought of this sooner.
2 Thumbs Up!
I really like the idea — not sure how many people will use it as a service though… will be interesting to see no doubt.
Everyone — thanks for the encouragement.
#13 — what does it cost? Approximately $2.25mm
Onward…
Lol, I was going to point out that your hyperlink was wrong
www/teachstreet.com but then I noticed that koral had done it and he has comment number 1.
meh.
