healthplanone.jpgHealth Plan One has taken $6.5 million Series A in a round led by Pequot Ventures that also included Greycroft Partners, Kevin Hill, Chan Wheeler and Bill Sullivan.

Shelton, CT based Health Plan One offers an online marketplace for health insurance where consumers can research and select health insurance plans from a wide range of providers.

Users enter their specific details and receive free health insurance quotes and can compare features among multiple options rather than researching individual plans from different sources. The site also provides support from licensed sales representatives.

Health Plan One will use the $6.5 million “to fuel growth in online customer acquisition and secure its place as a premier marketplace for health insurance.”

Maybe the use of proceeds can focus on writing HTML/CSS that renders in Safari: http://www.healthplanone.com/articles.asp

Good idea, a lot of people buy their own insurance, and it seems like the only option is to read the huge catalogs from each company

Seems like a risky play (at this time) to me. Health insurance is so up in the air right now - and it seems like something is going to give soon…but what do I know…the market says Im wrong. http://tinyurl.com/3qb699

On another note - they must have one heck of a profit margin per transaction - or one helluva b-plan…judging by compete & alexa - not that many people know about them yet.

Health Insurance is a hit or miss atm… I honestly thought it was over saturated right now — but I guess I’m wrong. All the power to them.

I have a stupid question. How does one know that 6.5 mil was actually given? - how does someone call “bullshit” to VC funding… i mean how do you know?

on second thought its not a bad idea for 2.0 startup.. “bullshit-funding.com”…

Why doesn’t someone start a company that will encourage adoption of a Medicare-for-all style system like nearly every other industrialized country? The USA has been an inspiration for a lot of democracies, but we really need to realize that the rest of the world understands this issue much better.

The overhead the US spends on feeding health insurance companies and the gouging we take from drug companies, hospitals, etc. needs to be brought under control. It will eventually become apparent to companies, as it has to the majority of the country’s doctors, that private health insurance is a racket and needs to be eliminated and replaced with a normal democratic system.

I started isagenix cleanse products 3 months before, its really magical i lose weight 10lbs in just 2weeks. Now i again on the same weight that i had before marriage. i am very happy now.

on this site http://www.cleanserevolution.com Patricialo Zano, the Isagenix Cleansing coach, helped me lot in loosing weight in a healthy manner.

Hey Health Guy,

Why would a democratic system work so well? If we developed a ’single payer’ system, thousands and thousands of people would lose their jobs. How should we adopt this single payer system? Just shut down every health insurance company across the country? What about all of the investors of these companies? If this is a good idea, why dont you propose a plan to impliment it.

eHealth (http://www.ehealth.com) has been doing this since 1997.

good for them
