I've been playing for a few months, and I agree with the above - erepublik is a really good idea that suffers from bad coding and poor execution. It's also really, really boring for new players - Not to mention the level of customer support provided - it leads to an atmosphere where nobody really trusts the administrative team. It might get better in a few years, but it's worth giving it a wide birth for now.

billybobbruno,

I dont agree you, multi account spoil the fun of game.
But i totally agree you that, a boring and take your life time to play type game like Erepublik, without using multi account = no life
That is not your problem, it is game design problem. I do what you did, I tell everyone i know stay away from this boring game.
Btw, I am waiting another game from Travian company, which similar to Erepublik. but it is not boring, even a new player will be guaranteed few hours play time. I am not sure the detail but someone working there told me ;)

Trust me, Erepublik is boring. It is definitely wont become the world first MMO browser game.
If you are new player, you can do only 2 things "work" and "train" within few weeks.
And this game has nothing, suck game play , suck technical, suck coding, but it is very smart to use players love feeling to their real life country.
160k active players are consider very moderate, and some more this game already running more than 1 year.
One example, a simple game in facebook: mafia wars, it got 4 million active players per day. So 160k is actually a very small figure compare to that.
Oh, btw, Erepublik soon will got a strong competitor, a similar web game from Travian company but it is more fun, it got what Erepublik has and it got even more, soon this October it will be released.

Great idea, bad implementation.

Game bugs, game team ignorance, server hacks,... all that is enough not to pay for their in game add-ons and not to play game any more.

Really disappointed after 6 months of play and huge promises from admins how they will repair and control the game mechanics. Big words, no implementations!

Better find other game to play.

This game sucks. It takes a really long time to get started and there is almost nothing to do. I found it more interesting to create multiple user accounts and play different characters in different cities during this slow stage. This resulted in a permanent ban.

Crazy. The only way to make the game NOT BORING, results in a permanent ban, with no warning. You lose everything, all your time, etc, money you paid something for it, etc

Stay away. This game is a joke and probably some excuse for Romanians to steal your credit card info. I'm telling everyone I know not to waste their time & money.

It's a shame because the game was actually FUN with multiple accounts. With one, its tedious

After leaving the game 9 months ago, I decided to give eRepublik another look just a couple of days ago to see if things had changed for the better yet. It couldn't have been better timing.

The game is in a shambles because the admins have allowed cheating to run rampant. It seems some 'snakes' have been exploiting a bug where they can create in-game gold out of thin air. They've been doing it since forever and the game admins have only figured it out a couple of days ago. The game economy is in the dumper, wars have been won and lost because of phony gold subsidies, and most of the worlds development has been founded on dirty money.

Ultimately the honest folks that played the game correctly this long, are the ones that'll be punished. Months ago, I reported obvious cheats, explained to admins how they were cheating, as well as a few other things. My pleas fell on deaf ears, and I decided to just walk away.

The admins currently have 2 choices, restart everything from scratch, or continue with a world that's been formed and is still run by the cheats.

Astonishing, how much the development has been costing.

But I think the political online game http://www.ars-regendi.com should also be mentioned :)

Erepublik is a good experiment gone bad. It is probably the most «bugged» online game around, and it is based on a distorted society model, where the only way to survive is going to War.

Also, it became a world network of hate, where nations are randomly created, and can be taken over if a number of citizens decides it.
In Erepublik, citizens can’t die, but the main objective of the game is to go to war.

As a political simulation it is a disaster.

As a wargame it is the worst in History.

I contest the "first massive online social strategy game", to begin with. All strategy games that are meant to be played online specifically against other users, and happen to be Government Simulators as well, are social networks as well. I take for, for example, Cybernations, Simcountry and, to some extend, NationStates. These games live from their playerbase, not from their functions.
What you are doing is to taking it to the next and not much further, I must say... The only thing that I see has an improvement is the friends list, unless I'm missing something.

Also, perhaps it's just me, but I would say the management does not possess the experience or the skills to manage a game of this genera or size. They have made several mistakes as admins, they do not have their limits or premises prioritized, they keep doing the same mistakes.

The concept of the game is nice. The game itself is not too shallow or deep. It's rather simple, to be honest.
It focuses mainly on the interaction between players, and that is usually said to be unlimited, so the game will be as interesting as its players and as limited as they wish. However, that interaction has been fuelled by hate and strife for a long time now, and the players that are already established may gain a tendency to reject the ones, as it happens with all games.

Nevertheless, it is a welcome addition to the internet.

[...] A little late posting this due to intensive road show in San Francisco and the valley. Being profiled on techcrunch US the week end before the start of or trip to San Francisco and the Valley was great since techcrunch is probably the most followed web2.0 business blog. You can see the article here. [...]

@Honest John - there has been some bug exploitation on both sides, I'm sure you know that. Putting the war on hold was a fair way to give the admins time to fix some of the bugs, I certainly don't see any favouritism in the way things have been handled.

Yes, there have been a fair few bugs in the beta that have been a real pain - but no-one has tried a game of this type before and it's quite tricky to know what implication even small changes can have when you are dealing with thousands of real people being the actors in the game. There is no 'AI' at all.

@Honest John

Hello there! I am myself an active user on eRepublik and although I'm neither american, nor a fan of americans, I do not agree with your comments (are you canadian, by chance?...btw, the war he was talking about is between USA and Canada). It was a bug in the system related to the war module which needed to be fixed before resuming the war and that was the reason for temporary suspending the battle.

Nevertheless, despite the existing bugs of the system, I still find this game very interesting and complex.

If any of the readers need an invite, please send me an e-mail at musketi@yahoo.com .

All the best.
