With the excitement brewing about our Meet-Up on May 1 in New York, we’ve decided to slowly open up RSVPs to about 200 more people in the expectation that we’ll have a bigger venue picked by the middle of next week. Sponsorships are lining up quite nicely and we look forward to some amazing giveaways and a bunch of cool demos at the show. That said, pop over to Eventbrite to RSVP.

Have you guys tried to translate Crunch Gear into Russian? Using an automated service? You know, it sounds incredibly funny. I just can’t quite explain why.
what does that say, maksim? zesternya krutst?
Shesternya hrusta… Taking into account all the idiosincracies of lexicon and pronunciation I figure that’s sort of Russian for Mr.Khroost’s gofer
My God, the russian translation is hillarious!
The Russian translation is literally “crunch’s gear”. What’s funny is that “crunch” was translated as “shesternya” which, in addition to actual grinding noise, is also slang for “someone’s bitch” (a variation of ’shesterka’)
disregard the above post. correction:
The Russian translation is literally “crunch’s gear”. What’s funny is that “gear” was translated as “shesternya” which, in addition to actual piece of equipment, is also slang for “someone’s bitch” (a variation of ’shesterka’)
HA HA HA :)) Even being a native speaker I didn’t get it right away :)) I thought it’s just another “wanna look like russian” writing like in “Borat” movie.
1st word stands for Gear
2nd stands for Crunch
but the grammar is wrong. It should say something like:”ХРУСТ ШЕСТЕРНИ” or “ХРУСТЯЩАЯ ШЕСТЕРНЯ” implying that “Crunch” in used as noun in “Crunch Gear” sentence.
Made me smile :))
I’ll be there.
Erick wanna be my date? i’ll be there.
LOL .. it took me a while to get what the “shesternja hrusta” was about
This is really neat actually. It’s a thinker. Don’t mind other people saying it’s a variation of a “bitch” - this strictly depends on the circles one revolves in. I am a native speaker and this interpretation didn’t occur to me. The most common meaning of “shesternja” is a spur gear.
glad to come here, thanks for sharing!

Great move! I am there as well! Thanks for listening to your readers and opening up more.
Dang, I just tried to register but to no avail–the 200 added spots are already gone? That’s what I get for reading this an hour after posting…
not much mobile going on at the LA meetup last night, but it was a great time.
see you in ny!
I would translate “шестерня хруста” back into English as “Crunchy’s Gear”. The grammar technically is not wrong, but it changes the meaning completely. Thank you for a laugh!
Anyone else from TechCrunch going (not including other *Crunch sites)? I would like to discuss the current state of the TC Forums.
Looks like sold out
When is the next batch?
will there be good russian vodka? if yes i may drop by:)
yes, there will be and it will have “шестерня хруста” on it’s label
First post mentioned some Nokia N95s being loaned to attendees to take video of the event. Suggestion: set up some channels on Kyte.TV or Qik.com … and let folks who can’t make the event send messages to video shooters (the N95 can accept real time text messages while streaming live video, at least via Qik). This will up the fun anty, as those who can’t attend can send messages to people shooting mobile video, telling them “go left”, “check out that booth”, “see what Schonfeld’s eating”, etc.
Next batch once we get a venue.
any chance of additional rsvp spots opening up? eventbrite says sold out…
we are coming too - btw-who is going to this one http://www.marketing2conference.com got an invitation today from our Paris colleagues - and where is marketing genious michael?
Mm…. yeah, ШЕСТЕРНЯ ХРУСТА just does not make any sense in Russian.
Comrades, do not let mean-spirited capitalists to insult the mighty Russian language and poke fun at the struggle of the working class!
The II Bolshevik’s Conference unanimously condemned the pathetic attempts of anarchists from Шестерня Хруста on hijacking our day of freedom and protest against exploitation of proletariat and oppressed geeks.
The development of Modern IT Industry, therefore, cuts from under its feet the very foundation on which the Venture Capital produces and appropriates products. What the Venture Capital therefore produces, above all, are its own grave-diggers. Its fall and the victory of the bootstrapped start-up are equally inevitable.
Whoever thought up the idea of doing a palladium sponsor is awesome. My wedding band is palladium and I love seeing the look on people’s faces when I tell them it’s not white gold or platinum. Go Samsung!
CrunchNetwork digg is no see
CrunchNetwork ШЕСТЕРНЯ ХРУСТА just makes any sense in Russian
Шестерня хруста — oh Ye the Mighty Gear of Crunch, ye made my day!
Just to nitpick: May 1 is actuallly originally a Chicago event.

Guys, i’d suggest you write “МЕХАНИЗМ ХРУСТА” - would make much more sense in Russian. If you don’t want to turn the meetup into linguistics debates
Any more invites? Will be traveling in NYC and would like to stop by.
