Yahoo has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of Tensa Kft., better known as IndexTools.
IndexTools offers web analytics software with a focus on delivering a “highly customizable and scalable analytics platform.” The service competes with other analytics providers as well as Google Analytics and Microsoft adCenter Analytics.
Yahoo said in a statement that upon completion of the acquisition, IndexTools’ assets well be used to expand Yahoo’s set of online marketing services, with additional capabilities enabling third-party developers to monitor and optimize the traffic performance of their applications to follow later in the year.
The price of the acquisition was not disclosed with the deal expected to be closed no later that June 30.

I guess the first question to ask is… what the heck took them so long? Google is acquiring an incredible mass of information from all its competitors and improving search engine data with the results of this… this should have been a no-brainer about 5 years ago for Yahoo!

i dunno what jerry is smoking? when the guys are deep in discussions with msft wtf are they doing all this for?
snoooze, they will all be using Gatineau soon anyways.
Good thing Yahoo! Don’t give in to Microsoft!
I have to say that Im not sure what Yahoo’s plans are at this point. Yahoo has announced numerous acquisitions and product releases since Microsoft’s offer to buy the company.
Something seems to be missing OR maybe Yahoo is just doing everything that they wanted to do before its over.
Just got the notice from IndexTools, I’ve been using/reselling it for over a year… smokes Google Analytics actually.
This could be huge for Yahoo (if it’s not too late), I wonder if they begged and how much they paid. It’s been downhill for Yahoo’s search/contextual advertising business since Panama, IndexTools is here to save the day!
Eh? I thought Yahoo is in deep discussion with the Microsoft takeover news.
It’s going to take more than this to put Yahoo! back in the game with Google. I hope Yahoo! has some sort of overarching strategy, althought Google does not seem to need competitive pressure to keep raising the bar!

Why are they continuing to acquire when MS may want to go in a totally different direction?
It’s a bad strategy but maybe MS gave the go ahead (wink, wink).
A good stats offering is one of the basics of creating an online empire. If Yahoo rolls it out well (unlikely) then combines with messenger and a good contextual ad platform, then they may yet recover to provide some sort of competition to Google.
the question is - why the hell did it take them so long?!?!?
Interesting - Yahoo acquires… while MS tried to acquire them.
Nice 500 server errors today. Great job MT. Maybe you should switch to EC2
Business as usual…
Interesting - a big chunk of Index Tools customer base is not going to be happy (PriceRunner - Yahoo own Kelkoo and Yahoo Shopping) and Tesco (again, Yahoo Shopping).
If/when Microsoft buy Yahoo - they’ve also got EMC2 (competing with cloud storage, etc), and Vodafone (vs Microsoft’s mobile stuff).
I am happy with Google analytics. But this gives one reason as a webmaster to try Yahoo.

PressReleasePoint
Jay Westerdal predicted this.
It took so long because Yahoo already has analytics that they offer to advertisers (they bought from Keylime back in the day). I’m guessing that this has to do with the recent AMP release. Looks like they are planning to offer more robust analytics for all their online clients….search, display, mobile, video etc. Basically, the same products that were announced in the AMP press release.
People were wondering what Jerry’s 100 day plan was all about? I guess we’re finally getting a dose of it.
I dont think Yahoo is in trouble if there are getting into another business.
