The ten millionth article has been written on Wikipedia - a Hungarian biography of of 16th century painter Nicholas Hilliard (English version here).
Those ten million articles have been written across 250 different languages, Wikipedia says. English is still the most popular language on Wikipedia, with 2.3 million articles (they reached 2 million English articles in September 2007). After English, the next most popular languages are German, French, Polish, Japanese, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.
See here for an article count by language.

Congrats to the Wikimedia Foundation… despite all the criticism it seems to draw nowadays, Wikipedia will forever be remembered a one of the hallmarks of this new technological era. I really hope it continues to so effectively serve the millions of people who use it each day.
Congrats to Wiki but what’s going on with Jimbo
This is a testament to how the right idea at the right time - can capture the world’s imagination.
But let us not forget, it is quality not quantity of information
Wiki is great. I use it all the time and try to make contributions. Congrats!
They are crowdsourcing masters. Lets see if Jimbo can pull off Wikia Search now.
The way the internet is spread they will reach 20 million in much less time…
10 million worth of knowledge and going stronger , even my 11 years old son uses it all the time, congrats Jimbo.

How Do you measure Success?
Last week i signed my 7 year old son up for baseball and on the way home from our first practice, i told him that we needed to go to the book store to buy some beginners books and we need to start watching baseball on TV.
He replied, “or i can just go to Wikipedia and learn about the game”
Enough said.
Although it might be an Apple-to-Orange comparison, Korea’s Naver Q&A (copied by Yahoo Q&A) has 70million+ entries, and that’s mostly in one language (Korean) only.
