"now i am hosting my songs on aimini.net, not sure if this site has handled all the copyright hassle things with music labels"
aimini.net handles copyright issues by invoking the DMCA and basicly saying

'we're just hosting, here's the details of the person who uploaded, go and sue them instead'

of course that's what imeem did and Warner still sued the site for infringement at least until they performed a miracle and convinced the record label to drop the lawsuit and invest in the company.

Websites make a lot of noise when they sign deals with record labels and other media providers, if aimini.net doesn't have any news articles mentioning such deals then they're relying on the DMCA and hoping to deflect any lawsuits onto the users of the site.

i tried this imeem few times but every time something went wrong. not allowing download is another setback. i like to listen to the songs i like from any computer, to access my playlists etc and imeem looked like a perfect fit for that but after few times trying use it i gave up. now i am hosting my songs on aimini.net, not sure if this site has handled all the copyright hassle things with music labels but the service is just perfect. few click fast upload, nice embed and download widget, fast load. imeem should learn from it.

Hey,

First of all, Imeem is a pretty good music website and has a good community. This thing with their platform is another move in boosting their traffic and also gaining new users.

But overall the site itself has good potential and will bring soon the eyes of potential buyers upon them.
This should be a good option for Microsoft.

1) ''All of this would be great if programmers could take these apps to other sites like MySpace. But for now they can’t ...'' As a dev I am put off because of this fact.

2) Imeem done a deal with the labels that would appear to have been too generous and as a result I also question the long term viability, which is another cause not to develop for a single platform,

3) then theres the last catch, social media traffic is the worst form of advertising
market, no one in the social space inc stumbleupon etc has managed to significantly monetize this form of traffic from advertising alone.

I think imeem already is the biggest legal network of music in the world, quantcast pegs the 'imeem network' with over 100million users per month.

Looks like they had some problems over the weekend, their quantcast hits took a big hit. I think they might have had some teething problems launching this over the weekend.

hmm - think if you can't take the apps anywhere else - its more of a closed API system not dissimilar to Facebook.

Open it up and allow all people to take their applications anywhere - and bang - you have just created the biggest legal network of music in the world.
