The social media space is clearly begging for consolidation.

I have at least 10 or 12 profiles and cannot possibly update them all regularly. I regularly pull material from media sites such as Splashcast and Flickr. How do we focus?

There needs to be a single portal for pulling all this together. We need to differentiate between taxonomic fundamentals so that overlap is minimized and productivity is maximized.

Will Sonecast be the one to do this? Maybe, maybe not. But it is a vision whose time has come, and it's exciting to be at the beginning.

We're very curious to explore how Sonecast could be a useful tool in the mediacasting model/experiment we are conducting this weekend at Startup Weekend. www.mediacasters.tv is not a Startup Weekend project, but it is very much evolving as the weekend goes on.

Good points on SplashCast, seeing as how they just raised $4 million. I added them to the post.

Interesting that SplashCast looks to be widget-only and Sonecast is destination-page only. You need both.

Agreeing with Kayakman, it'd be interesting to see how this ultimately differes from the other broadcast apps. Seems pretty good but will it fair well in this competitive market?

This sounds a little like SplashCast. It would be interesting have a post comparing these types of "broadcast" applications.

Congrats to Tola for the interview and thanks to TechCrunch for showing NC some startup love. There are quite a few startups in the area that receives little or no PR, but we're working on that. I believe Sonecast will work for aggregated social media content to provide a central location for broadcasting media and lifestreams.

Yes it's like a web desktop but remember it's in alpha stage at the moment. I think with a little VC help and the right marketing Sonecast will be a product that social media marketers will want to use to find and reach others broadcasting.

You can see a video interview with Soncecast CEO Tola here on Local Conversations: http://blogs.wncn.info/wsutton/2008/02/20/tola-talks-social-media-and-sonecasting/
