The Turkish Govt ordered access to YouTube to be blocked over a week ago. But then it wouldn’t be reported too much as their human rights record is much better than China’s……isn’t it?

China is a Country with lots of needs an hope within the country. The current situation have brought them to act in such a way that sounds, and is, cruel and strict. However this shall not hide all the facts, and people love to hear so much bad things about China that we do not see anything else but China being evil, and that apart from not being the only truth is not enough to have a correct judgment about any situation where China is involved. Surprised TC hasn’t reported on Alibaba’s stock going under IPO territory yet. I imagine that’d make a lot of people on this thread happy.

That said, as an American living in China, I can attest that the vast majority of Chinese do not, in fact, know much about 1989, much less see things the way “we” do. I’m not saying all Chinese are ignorant of these things but there are a LOT of people here and like most countries, most people are ignorant. That’s just the sad truth of it all. It is a combination of the government controlling information, staunch nationalism, and general apathy. More people know about Britney Spears than 1989…both in China and abroad.

I’m in China too, and all videos and blogs which post negative opinions on this issue have been banned. If there are any others, it’s a matter of time. (such as http://www.pekinduck.org) BIG question to the openness of information in China.

If China wants us trust, then let us broadcast your shit in the West!

You guys are just funny, how much do you know about China? All you know is from the media press in your country.
Do you think they are totally true? There’s cencorship in every country. We’ve already seen how US government fake news.

Most young people never see the image? nonsense, I can tell you here most Chinese young people know detail about 1989, it was a problem, but now everything changes, we have more access to get what we need.

Don’t think China is like North Korea, we have freedom to know here.

Its funny how people bring up censorship by other nations and atrocities and genocides from past to justify and evade the responsibility of what is happening now.

Its unfortunate. A wrong elsewhere doesn’t displace the wrong happening here and now.

I hope Google or any other corporation stick to the values they are built upon. May be chinese wont give a F to what google does or doesn’t. Good for them.

I am in Beijing, China google news has been available the whole time, youtube is indeed out. It appears that certain stories on google news along with certain things on other sites about Tibet are blocked but not the site itself

Actually Google News isn’t blocked in Shanghai. I’m there now and looking at Google News.

I’ve learned that there are two different ways China filters the internet. The first is a flat out block like they’ve done with YouTube, the other is a Keyword Trap which is likely what is happening with Google News. A keyword trap means that certain keywords are flagged and whenever they show up on a page that page is then blocked.

Google News frequently has these keywords on the front page so they get temporarily blocked until that story goes off the front page. Same thing for sites like the New York Times or the Guardian.

u guys are such drama queens, including TC. it’s not that bad here - i’m a foreigner here and i can assure u no one really gives a lot of F when it comes to YT nor GOOG. chinese is self-sufficient, and if you guys fail to understand the deeper roots as to why china has to practice your ‘nucking futs’ censorship rule, then it’s obviously not china’s loss…

In the second video (CNN report), the scenes were not from Lhasa. Those policemen were not even Chinese.
