Filesharing IS illegal in every nation that’s signed on to the Bern Convention, and upholds copyright law. Filesharing is also IMMORAL, in that you take what doesn’t belong to you, and then hand it off to another person without the owners permission.

2 immoral actions. 2 illegal actions. Both seriously hurting the artist.

You are absolutely right and I second your position and statements. These looters, bottom feeders are also cowards…. Why don’t they steal property from their neighbors, the supermarket or a car dealership. The only reason they don’t is because they are afraid of the consequences of being caught. The only way to deal with them is treating them like the criminals they are… there is no making them understand anything in a civilized way. The day the proper authorities catches them and puts them in jail where they belong, these cowards will crawl back into the cockroach little dark holes they operate from… Like you said, their actions are completely immoral and insane, there’s no justification whatsoever for what they do… I don’t have revenge in my heart, these people are too imbecile to spend that kind of negative energy. Hmmm, most distributions I work with rely lately on file sharing to get their files distributed well because keeping them on servers uses up too much bandwidth rapidly and causes problems when users need to update at lot at once. Clearly, file sharing is not the problem, the problem is that some people don’t like other people using file sharing as a means of sharing files which are for some reason or other declared illegal. To use that as an excuse to stop file sharing is like outlawing mathematics because people can use it to design illegal weapons of mass destruction.

You mention war, yet most nations are at peace. Of the nations that are at war, most citizens are not running around fighting.

Let them speak for themselves about war.

You mention murder and rape, and yet the overwhelming majority of humans do not murder or rape. The majority make love and create babies.

Let them speak for themselves about sex and life.

You mention manufacturing, yet more food (a life sustainer) is created than guns. So much more of our land and resources are used to perpetuate life than end it.

Let us speak for ourselves about what we’re building.

You mention entire villages having sex slaves, but ignore the vast cities that have people who abhor such a concept.

And yes, I know a lot of people who do spend time away from the internet attempting to make other’s lives better. Most people I know are also trying to put food on their table too. That’s all I and other professional musicians have been trying to do. Feed ourselves. What makes me angry, is not so much that people take the music. Not that they steal the music.

The hypocrisy is what gets me. What do you do for a career? Work for free or else stop being a hypocrite. And don’t give me that bullshit about “oh you love it”. There are people going into farming because they love it. They still want people to buy their organic tomatoes so they can pay health insurance. There are countless careers that are as fulfilling and creative as music, that pay far more. No-one begrudges them making money.

Unless you extoll a communist utopia where all people share everything, you have no right NO RIGHT to demand we deserve our time, energy and creations should be taken and distributed freely against our will.

Filesharing is immoral, mean-spirited, hypocritical and livelihood-destroying. It is the equivalent of marching into a village and razing it and the village crops to the ground.

And no, I will never divulge my personal information here in this forum just because you demand it. I have explained why, so you are wasting your energy asking.

Geez…. that is what business is all about: cheating, lying, deceiving, stealing, taking from others more than you give them, making profit. In fact, that is biologically how organisms function, how we get food chains with some at the top and very many lower down.

The main issue to note here is that it does *not* follow that illegal is wrong nor that legal is right. It is perfectly legal to make money using a variety of practices which are not *right* in any moral sense. Take marketing for example, the purposeful deception of people and swapping of meta-information for real information. It is very hard to force companies and people to give real information because they use lies to make their products looks better, and secrecy to enhance prestige: the image is more important than the real thing.

In my opinion, we are seeing a “medievalization of information” (my terminology), with information and technology and techniques hoarded by new guilds who strongly guard and fight against freedom of these things, in the name of “service”, whose main aim is to disempower all outside their guild and by these means “generate revenue”. Very short-term and suicidal for our society. It goes against the scientific method, the only improvement socially the world (the West, not Asia) has seen since the dawn of humanity.

We would do well to take all means necessary to protect our privacy and at the same time make sure the core of all our work is set free, while the value-added part can be made so specific that it generates the revenue by means of its focus, rather than by being something general. The truth is that whatever one person can imagine, others can imagine even more, so holding onto things in the interests of short-term revenue is *wrong* and bad for our society and future.

You’re just pissy because I’m mocking you, so stop being a pussy and tell everyone your band, or solo artist, name so we can hear your music instead of seeing you talk about it.
