#11 is completely right. It's a stupid move from the ISPs since they know they're getting their dough from all of this file sharing. Since people have to donate money and all. So why make a stupid move when they're going to come crashing down. And if they were to make their own internet it'll just come crashing down won't last long because this whole file sharing is international. Which means dough.

Yeah, we're just starting to make the same kinds of posts and since I posted last only one other person showed up.... -Sighs- So annoying.... Cheers, Melkyor, on your fight! I'd help, but with my slow connection and evil computer I don't think I can do much. -Now if I fought in public that would be a different story-

KING OF TC THREAD, I take the compliment kindly. ^__^ I doubt we'll fall in love and adopt children, though I will message you. -As soon as this thing stops throwing a tantrum every time I try to post here-

~Shishio

PS: Still no sarcastic or mean comments..... >>

Obitokai, it took me 15 minutes to read your post, next time you want to let your message be known you should probably take a lesson in grammar.... :/

That was weak... Sorry guys, I'm rather sleep deprived... I'll try again later.

Mercedes I mean that in a sincere way, not sarcastic. Its not everyday you meet a girl that can think like you, let alone type intelligibly. Kudos!

We should be penpals! I'm Kayla. We'll fall in love, adopt children and tell them one day we met on the TC Thread...

But anyways, fuck! This thread is getting old. Does anyone care anymore?

I'm over it.

#1126 On what grounds? You would fight to steal other people's property without consequence?

I have a better idea. Next time you see a beggar, why not steal their coins from them? Makes about as much sense as stealing music from artists.

#1122, the problem is with a culture of filesharing, if you're a non-live act, there is no point to becoming well known, because no-one buys the product. People only hear of unknown bands, known only through filesharing, via filesharing!

It's a dead end loop.

Filesharing IS illegal in every nation that's signed on to the Bern Convention, and upholds copyright law. Filesharing is also IMMORAL, in that you take what doesn't belong to you, and then hand it off to another person without the owners permission.

2 immoral actions. 2 illegal actions. Both seriously hurting the artist.

in some ways the file sharing ordeal can help the unknown become known. example: Johnny uses free file sharing to listen to some new band he just saw by a miraculous accident. Johnny likes them and tells his best friend Bob about the band. Bob likes the band but has no file sharing capabilities. so Bob goes to a local music store or something and purchases the bands music legally. Bob likes them to so he tells his friends and it continues to circulate and grow. and before long the band or musician is well know in certain areas and if it gets loud enough it becomes widespread. its not illegal. its legal. but some people see it immoral.......i have mixed views. =]

Melkyor,

You are absolutely right and I second your position and statements. These looters, bottom feeders are also cowards.... Why don't they steal property from their neighbors, the supermarket or a car dealership. The only reason they don't is because they are afraid of the consequences of being caught. The only way to deal with them is treating them like the criminals they are... there is no making them understand anything in a civilized way. The day the proper authorities catches them and puts them in jail where they belong, these cowards will crawl back into the cockroach little dark holes they operate from... Like you said, their actions are completely immoral and insane, there's no justification whatsoever for what they do... I don't have revenge in my heart, these people are too imbecile to spend that kind of negative energy. But I do believe that justice will prevail and that all the karmic powers to be will start to kick in... Enough of this mob retarded mentality. The solution will come...

"Filesharing is immoral, mean-spirited, hypocritical and livelihood-destroying."

Hmmm, most distributions I work with rely lately on file sharing to get their files distributed well because keeping them on servers uses up too much bandwidth rapidly and causes problems when users need to update at lot at once. Clearly, file sharing is not the problem, the problem is that some people don't like other people using file sharing as a means of sharing files which are for some reason or other declared illegal. To use that as an excuse to stop file sharing is like outlawing mathematics because people can use it to design illegal weapons of mass destruction.

#1116, I agree the world does speak for itself.

You mention war, yet most nations are at peace. Of the nations that are at war, most citizens are not running around fighting.

Let them speak for themselves about war.

You mention murder and rape, and yet the overwhelming majority of humans do not murder or rape. The majority make love and create babies.

Let them speak for themselves about sex and life.

You mention manufacturing, yet more food (a life sustainer) is created than guns. So much more of our land and resources are used to perpetuate life than end it.

Let us speak for ourselves about what we're building.

You mention entire villages having sex slaves, but ignore the vast cities that have people who abhor such a concept.

And yes, I know a lot of people who do spend time away from the internet attempting to make other's lives better. Most people I know are also trying to put food on their table too. That's all I and other professional musicians have been trying to do. Feed ourselves. What makes me angry, is not so much that people take the music. Not that they steal the music.

IT'S THAT THEY MAKE SELF-RIGHTEOUS SELF-DELUDED JUSTIFICATIONS THAT DEMAND WE PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN NOT MAKE A PENNY FROM OUR CRAFT.

The hypocrisy is what gets me. What do you do for a career? Work for free or else stop being a hypocrite. And don't give me that bullshit about "oh you love it". There are people going into farming because they love it. They still want people to buy their organic tomatoes so they can pay health insurance. There are countless careers that are as fulfilling and creative as music, that pay far more. No-one begrudges them making money.

Unless you extoll a communist utopia where all people share everything, you have no right NO RIGHT to demand we deserve our time, energy and creations should be taken and distributed freely against our will.

Filesharing is immoral, mean-spirited, hypocritical and livelihood-destroying. It is the equivalent of marching into a village and razing it and the village crops to the ground.

And no, I will never divulge my personal information here in this forum just because you demand it. I have explained why, so you are wasting your energy asking.

post 1116. its true that we make these weapons. but we dont make them with the intent to just say. hey we have the weapon lets go kill. no we make them so that when the time to do something comes when violence can and probably will occure we can protect ourselves. some places use their children as sex slaves due to the fact they have no other way to make an income and live. its a fight for your own survival in most of those cases. here you are bitching at some of the people here for gettin upset their free music may dissapear. but arent you bitching at them about it ,than going out and solving the problems you bring up, basically you being a hipocrite with no answer to your own questions. how bout if you dont wanna listen to people talk about the file sharing deal you should just leave and not say anything. you point out all these problems n stuff. take a minute to look at the other side of things. those places where people are going out of their way to help another person or even a small animal. and those that give their last few dollars to those in worse cases. people like you piss me off. look at both sides of the world before you go bitching about just one side. k.

David wrote: "I find it alarming that so many people in this discussion seem to find it irrelevant that file sharing is illegal… it is theft… stealing. It is wrong. It is not right."

Geez.... that is what business is all about: cheating, lying, deceiving, stealing, taking from others more than you give them, making profit. In fact, that is biologically how organisms function, how we get food chains with some at the top and very many lower down.

The main issue to note here is that it does *not* follow that illegal is wrong nor that legal is right. It is perfectly legal to make money using a variety of practices which are not *right* in any moral sense. Take marketing for example, the purposeful deception of people and swapping of meta-information for real information. It is very hard to force companies and people to give real information because they use lies to make their products looks better, and secrecy to enhance prestige: the image is more important than the real thing.

In my opinion, we are seeing a "medievalization of information" (my terminology), with information and technology and techniques hoarded by new guilds who strongly guard and fight against freedom of these things, in the name of "service", whose main aim is to disempower all outside their guild and by these means "generate revenue". Very short-term and suicidal for our society. It goes against the scientific method, the only improvement socially the world (the West, not Asia) has seen since the dawn of humanity.

We would do well to take all means necessary to protect our privacy and at the same time make sure the core of all our work is set free, while the value-added part can be made so specific that it generates the revenue by means of its focus, rather than by being something general. The truth is that whatever one person can imagine, others can imagine even more, so holding onto things in the interests of short-term revenue is *wrong* and bad for our society and future.

@1104 The world speaks for itself. Humans can't go a decade without war, or an hour without murder and rape. As we type our useless words guns and biological weapons are being made, or designed, to wipe each other out. Entire villages base their income on using children as sex slaves. Does anyone here spend more time focusing on how to fix those things or bullshitting on the internet? Hopefully one day you have a real reason to get angry, but if something as trivial as file sharing gets you all hot and bothered you'll definitely have health problems before very long. If you don't already...

You're just pissy because I'm mocking you, so stop being a pussy and tell everyone your band, or solo artist, name so we can hear your music instead of seeing you talk about it.

# 1113 Artists with mansions constitute 1% of professional musicians.
Anyway try that logic with diamonds. Yeah, the DeBeers have enough money right?! Why pay for diamonds?!

Try it, go on.

Hope you have a good lawyer son.
