mmmm... *cough* I've heard... *cough* ...users from outside the US have found a way to watch it... *cough*

c'mon we can't change from free content youtube or illegal downloading torrent to hulu, overnight can we?

I loved the concept of hulu mainly because I love many of the shows available there... 2 things to improve TODAY:

1- Enable buffering... It would be just great to pause my Office ep at 11:30am then come back at noon to watch the full episode running smooth while I eat... I know, I know... my conn sucks... I have to do it with youtube anyways!

2- Become available for the rest of the world... You've said here it's not a simple thing to do because of all the licensing and copyright laws... I bet Matt Groening and everybody who makes their living out of these shows would love the absurd amount of cash they would get from the int'l audience... is it complicated? is there too much bureaucracy? well, work this out, 'cause we can't... all we can do is emulate a VPN in the US... point is, we're already using the bandwidth, but the content creators aren't getting paid... you know how internet works... if there's a way, people will find it, and use it, and use it more, and it will become out of control very fast

Hulu is a great service IMO, they just need to expand their library of titles. Currently they only have 3 family guys and only clips of futurama. I like the concept and the current titles are good, but all I'm asking is expansion. Maybe that will come after the site gets out of beta.

Hulu has been pretty good. It has been better than most video sites that I have seen. My biggest problem with it that it's frustrating to search for a show and just to find only clips (Not entire episodes). Repeat that a couple times and its a big waste of my time. There needs to be set rules or some sort of order to see what's available.

#60 Hulu appeals to me. I have satelite/DVR in the other room, but prefer to watch my TV shows on my computer. Somewhat so I don't have to end up fighting with the wife over DVR hours left, but mostly just cause I like all my entertainment in one place. Call me lazy.

Hulu's quality is fine for me. Sure its not quite HD crispness, but I find myself not caring about that too much. The only thing keeping me from using it more is the lacking content consistancy. Like I recently found that I like the show Chuck and wanted to catch up on it. I went to Hulu and they had the first 3 eps and the last 2. Nothing in between. If they ever get to the point where eps dont expire so you can see them all, I will use it a lot more. Until then I'll just check in every once in a while to see if theres been progress and get my TV fix elsewhere.

I hook up my laptop to my large Tube TV (hey it was on special) via S-Video and a $7 Audio patch cable and watch HULU ,Joost,Netflix and Miro all the time .I also cable TV and Internet .Its nothing fancy or expensive .

For Web browsing and Youtube videos I use the Wii .

I know of some IPTV companies that are investigating the use of http proxies so you can stream from your computer to your TV either via the Wii Internet Channel or creating WiiWare titles so they can run natively on the Wii .

michael... what will hurt hulu is the inability to download anytype of ad supported downloads from the site....

sure paying 1.99/show via itunes or whereever is great for noncommercial downloads, but i'd take a big gamble on the fact that if hulu offered a free ad supported download service on hulu, it'd explode in popularity for NBC and others using it.

I'll gladly sit through a commercial for a free download. IMHO

Mike,

Either your sense of humor is a little weirder than I though, or you legitimately think I work for Hulu (based on some strange defense mechanism which makes you believe that if someone likes product X and you don't like product X, then that person must clearly work for product X). Honestly, I don't, I just really enjoy their product and am applying logical business strategy to make sense of their customer-facing decisions.

That being said, if Hulu is interested, I'm currently in the market for a high-paying jobs loaded with perks, stock options, and the opportunity to meet celebrities. Please contact me via this comment section - I know Matthew Harrington will appreciate us using his site!

Either the tools you use to (creepily) monitor the source of your posters is completely wack, or you are lying about having some sort of evidence that I work for them.

Hulu is a good product, please don't let your nerdy delusions hinder your ability to appreciate them trying to legitimize and industry that has far too long been questionable (online TV).

Hulu appeals to the innovators and early adopters - many who have their PCs hooked up to LCD TVs!

( like this setup http://www.techavid.com/internetTV.php)

Cable TV for myself is a thing of the past! I use Hulu, Joost, Fancast and others instead and to also surf the net from my recliner!

Just who is Hulu supposed to appeal to?

As a small business owner, this is a service I would block the second it showed up on the bandwidth charts. There goes the "watch it at work" angle.

Second, who does this appeal to? People that don't have a DVR / Cable subscription or don't find any value in quality programming? Not exactly the consumer audience I'd advertise to.

Michael et al--

Our story, which you didn't even have the decency to link to, (http://money.cnn.com/2008/03/05/technology/hulu.fortune/index.htm?source=yahoo_quote) was merely aiming to tell the story of Hulu as we see it. If something in business turns out well, we have no compunction about saying so.

Honestly, while you say "the article is way too generous in its portrayal of Hulu and its history" I don't really see a substantiation of that in your subsequent comments. You quote our extremely positive comments on the interface and then talk about the company's clumsy beginnings and the sometimes choppy video. It's telling that many of your readers--as well as those commenting on the story on Digg--seem to be fervent fans of Hulu. It really has hit a nerve and impressed people in a way that few would have expected possible from NBC and Fox. That was the main point of the story.

I liked the way Kitt kept instigating dramatic conversations with the characters. Watched half.
