While the consumer applications are likely the most popular, mobile service providers may find this attractive to their small business customers -- who can create a live channel on this managed service at a very low cost.

Managed services are already popular for basic connectivity, unified communications, web hosting, security and perhaps now video broadcasting.

@Sam - Actually, we may indeed have a job for you :) We have a lot of openings at the moment and some are not yet posted. Check out http://www.kyte.com/jobs and if you see a fit let us know.

@ZiZi - Interesting remarks about how Kyte and our partners are actually going to make money. What we've discovered is that there is a sweet spot where artist and entertainment content (branded content for lack of a better word) converge with user generated content and social communications. What the Kyte Platform provides for media and entertainment partners is massive distribution of their content and brand, including online viral distribution amongst fans and mobile distribution across a wide array of devices and carrier networks. The Kyte Branded player can be monetized in several ways: integrating links to merchandise or virtual goods, sponsored advertising, display advertising and premium content. More on that can be found here and here.

@Steven Cheng - If you haven't checked out our stuff in a while you should. The product has evolved immensely, just in the last release. If you have an N95, sign up for our beta. It's a pretty amazing experience.

@ASG - Couldn't have said it better myself. Kyte is very much about "enabling mobile users to communicate with each other via video." Our media partners are using Kyte the same way end users do. They're posting video content with their phones and fans are tuning in and connecting with them via multimedia chat, both online via the embedded Kyte Player and mobile through the Kyte Mobile Web. The difference of course is that my Kyte channel gets about 5 viewers (on a good day), while 50 Cent gets hundreds of thousands a day. He can monetize his channel and I can't... simple as that. People don't want to buy my t-shirts but they want to buy his.

By the way, the coolest thing for end users is that all the innovation and development that goes into the Kyte Platform for commercial use is available for consumers to use for free. Anyone can create a Kyte Channel and add basic branding.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

@NotReady4PrimeTime and Steven C.,

sorry, but you guys don't understand the scope of this opportunity. handset manufacturers like nokia and operators like teliasonera don't get involved in startups unless it's a core strategic initiative.

"Unless the telcos open up their networks and as net neutrality becomes a bigger obstacle video will get killed in two punch knock out - Overutilization charges for overunning the networks and more lawsuits or non-reciprocal deals from the Big Studios."

i think you've misunderstood what kyte's all about - kyte isn't about licencing expensive content from media companies or film studios. it's about enabling mobile users to communicate with each other via video.

"mobile is limited, not as “big” as it sounds…one of those things that sounds promising, but won’t amount to much"

in the US, perhaps you're right (at least in the short term). but not in advanced wireless markets such as Japan, S. Korea, and countries in Western Europe. not to mention emerging markets like China and India where mobile is already overtaking the wired Internet.

I've been playing around with Kyte ever since Scoble huffed and puffed about it - very unreliable...mobile is limited, not as "big" as it sounds...one of those things that sounds promising, but won't amount to much - trying to go against serious industry trends.

Seems like a another rush to pile on investment to counter things like Or Die Networks. Everyone is trying to be the next YouTube but YouTube never made any real money and it still doesn't.

The foundamental problem with Internet TV or Mobile TV is not a lack of content. There is more than enough content already sitting and collecting dust. Its the platform and the platform is the Network which is owned by the telcos.

@ emma
Have you even looked at the site? it is 100% different than any other video site out there, I have no use for kyte myself but the idea is great and I can see millions using it everyday.
all that said, I dont understand how the hell they are going to make money, they let you start your own branded channel, i cant personally see how they can fit advertisements on there.
so, if they can figure out how they can milk cash out of this then they got a hit.
Youtube is STILL losing money, these guys will have an even bigger problem IMO.

@Zizi: here's a video with a full Kyte demo, which we created for our business partners: http://www.kyte.com/demo We are working on something similar for consumers.

@Emma: The point of Kyte is offering a communication platform that enables easy production and massive distribution. The service can be used by anyone, like you and me, but it is primarily used by media and entertainment. Artists of the four major record labels are using Kyte. Artists use Kyte to get closer with their fan base. No need for HD video quality, this is about authenticity. And btw, the video quality is pretty good, if you ask me. Here’s an example: Raheem DeVaughn is a grammy nominated artist and he is sharing his life live with mobile video on his channel: http://www.theloveexperience.com/ Watch a few episodes and you get a good idea about why fans like this. It is not pre-cooked polished video, it is not stolen from the artist, it is him talking directly to his fans through his own voice… I hope this clarifies.
