Apple has sent out an email to the media announcing a March 6th event for laying out an “iPhone Software Roadmap” that will focus on the SDK as well as “new enterprise features”.
It’s not clear whether the SDK will actually be released on that date, or whether it will just be detailed. In either case, Apple has failed to fulfill its promise to release the SDK this February as anticipated.
The event will be invite-only and will take place at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, starting at 10am.
While nothing has been said about which enterprise features will exactly be discussed, business users are obviously hoping that they will include some sort of Microsoft Exchange support.

yet another api…
yet another sdk..

What about ipod touch? anything?
Interesting how they will roll it out, you would think all those facebook apps would want an iphone app, hope they restrict them
How do you rate? Check out http://www.yupnup.com
– “has failed to fulfill its promise” –
So they missed it by a week, big deal. Was it even a promise?
Mark,
What are your thoughts on any redesign of the iPhone hardware, the phone itself? When I look at the iPhone compared to the Blackberry The main disadvantage, at least from my point of view, is the lack of an integrated GPS chip on board.
I know the iPhone has bluetooth capability and you can somewhat get around the issue by using a bluetooth GPS receiver, but there is still no good navigation software to use with it (at least not that I have found).
Do you think the iPhone will soon cover these gaps; either on the hardware of software side anytime soon?
March 6th…yet another Apple Tuesday!
Um…March 6th is a Thursday.
and…Yooflix.com? Really? Why even bother to spam something so so awful looking and useless?
Yooflix delivers a Facebook application, worth estimated $7 billion
Raskin, you have me pissing myself
This could end up being a non-event. As a Windows Mobile user, the only applications that most people care about are Messaging (Email and IM), Media (Music and Pics), Maps (only the hardcore) and skinning.
With the iTunes and Google Maps built in, that really only leaves an outlook client and skinning an already gorgeous phone as real application needs. Other than that we’ll see some games.

Damn I can’t wait for third party apps to start rolling out. I love my iPhone and all but sometimes it seems so boring…
looking for an announcement on:
- MMS support
- Web Flash Video support
I agree with Rich… I want my MMS!
I’d pay for an upgraded Mail app: one that allows BCC, attachment of photo(s) directly from a composition and a means of batch deleting.
I’d also pay for a better Camera app: one that has a zoom, video mode, crop/rotate/white balance etc.
To-Do List management integrated with iCal would be spiffy as well.
The mention of Enterprise support undoubtedly speaks to Exchange Server support, which I could care less about but it’s nice to know Apple is making a move into the territory.
The Flash issue is really what I’m bothered by with my iPhone. And when are they going to work on the WiFi? I could have three bars and it’s STILL faster to use EDGE than it is WiFi. And the Safari-crashing issue. This better be a productive event that yields some results!
Rich,
Flash for the iphone is to slow
