Don’t be surprised if you see former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich strolling down the streets of Palo Alto. He’s opened a Silicon Valley office for his American Solutions organization, which supports limited government, and we hear he’s been spending a lot of time in the area. David Kralik, the organization’s Director of Internet Strategy, is heading up the new office.
In a blog post Kralik talks about the rise of the Internet as a force in politics: “We’ve established an office in Silicon Valley because we want to be in the middle of innovation and entrepreneurship and gain firsthand knowledge of the latest technological developments that will continue to change online politics.” Gingrich talks about the new office in the video above.

there goes the neighborhood
Frightening…and I here thought the scariest things strolling down the streets of Palo Alto were some of the outfits some of our fellow techies wear.
No matter your political affiliation you can’t deny (well some will :)) Newt is a smart guy, who genuinely seems concerned, I for one welcome this, and hope other leaders (like Mike) do as well.
who cares. just another corrupt hypocrite wife-cheater republican
Brian D: you’re a leader? Never heard of you.
If you look up “hypocrite” in an online dictionary, you should see a picture of Newt Gingrich.
“former Speaker of the House”
You misspelled “disgraced.”
BrianD@3: It doesn’t count if you use your intelligence for douchbaggery.
go for it Newt!!!! obviously there are some non voting americans the so called majority who no how to belch but cant speak. those dems just cant get over that they lost the last election.
At the globalization stage of evolution, global issues (environmental, cultural and business — i.e. water & warming, poverty & migration, corporate mega-regions & nation-states — to name a few, will logically require global governance. When folks like Newt spew less government memes they mean for the very, very rich; as in less taxes. This is very, very limited thinking; _right_fully labeled “conservative”. He apparently thinks the “limited government” line is always in fashion and Silicon Valley is his new(t) ‘cat-walk’. Newt, IMHO, your out of place and off-message. Silicon Valley is more about (global) Netizenship than “American Solutions”.
Please…. he is not here for the tech or culture! It is the cash….
As usual, Newt is way ahead of the pack. Being positive and creative defines professionalism.
Wow, lot of ignorant comments. Peter Drucker has called Newt one of the most innovative thinkers in America. Also, he’s not for “limited government”, he’s for solutions that 70% of americans agree on (lower taxes, immigration reform, strong defense, etc.) , “majority solutions” more-like. So he cheated on his wife, so did Bill Clinton, and I doubt the commenters above would treat Bill so badly.
I expect by the next elections for the internet to be the primary driver in the elections. It is gaining momentum and will only continue to do so as more electronically born youth come of voting age.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Newt’s when he was speaker. I was all for the Contract With America–the heart of which is responsible for what is now attributed to being a big part of Clinton’s success–but felt he was a bad politician: he was way too antogonistic towards Slick Willy, who to his credit didn’t veto much of the CWA, and the drive he led for Clinton’s impeachment was beneath him & just plain stupid. That said, in the ensuing years no one has been more actively involved in attempting to find genuine solutions to our problems in health care, immigration, domestic & foreign affairs, etc., than Newt. He is one of the few big thinkers in D.C. and the only person I’d vote for other than Obama. I’ll be surprised if this move pays off but at least he’s trying something new.
Bravo….I love the direction he is going with this…as for the neighborhood, I am sure it went tits up when you came to the block party.
Wow, this is the most pathetic comment thread I’ve ever seen on TC. I am proud to be a contributor to this pandering to a disgraced former politician by trolls. Here here! More news like this on TC too. Disgraced politicians with ethics problems should all find a home in Palo Alto so I have someone to suck up to on these chilly winter evenings.
# 10 has right “Please…. he is not here for the tech or culture! It is the cash….
“
So he cheated on his wife, so did Bill Clinton, and I doubt the commenters above would treat Bill so badly.
The commenters didn’t have the power to lead the impeachment of Clinton, which Gingrich most assuredly did before resigning after it turned out to be a loser issue in the 98 election. The next speaker resigned when it came out that he had cheated on HIS wife (outed by Larry Flynt).
I happen to kind of admire Newt, and my mom was a good friend of his and helped him run for office back when he was a nobody history professor at West Georgia College (now university). But facts are facts.
“So he cheated on his wife, so did Bill Clinton, and I doubt the commenters above would treat Bill so badly.”
And Billy did not post the Newt porn on the web for our kids to read.
Yeah! Valley Libertarians rising! More greed, hypocrisy, vanity, and the nanny state propping up tech companies for the Valley!
I ran across “American Solutions” through their banner ad for an online petition asserting “Why a Drill Here, Drill Now Approach Will Help America Pay Less at the Pump” Nice use of technology–push a few voter’s fear buttons, and hopefully they’ll press yours? Nice cynical old school politics.
