@EVILmonkey i have to disagree, “Midwife helps women reach orgasm during childbirth” is pretty important when you look at what goes on in the typical big-white-square hospital during childbirth. childbirth in a natural setting is better for everyone involved, and it can be ecstatic for the mother.

contrast that with the horrors of a modern hospital.

Mixx is coming on strong, and there is a good cohesion developing amongst it’s users, and it’s got a fairly polite, respectful vibe, unlike Digg. There are a growing number of refugees from Digg on there.

not to mention, it is definitely much fairer, and ALL up and down votes are public (AFAIK..) and there seems to be no burying.

Mixx is much more empowering to its users then Digg because its fair and lets users discuss things however they want, and oh, it’s just BETTER OK?

i hate Digg. Reddit is cool however, but the interface is odd, like just a hug CAT *.news is Unix. i’ve only submitted a few times to Reddit and never login anymore, but i get my stories from th…..no, forget that! nevermind. LOL

Mixx has reached critical mass now, too, with enough users (i’ve been since Oct. or Nov., and it was very small then.)

by the way, Dyde, no one is forcing you…waste your time doing other things!!

Stealing and copying one’s business model or self-image is the sincerest form of flattery. I wish Mixx the best of luck possible and I believe they may become a fairly large contender in this place. The key to surviving in the social bookmarking biz is to generate niche audiences, thus allowing better targeting and higher ad sales charges for high positions on the niche Digg-like sites.

How will they be making money other than through the use of a buy-out? It’s as though everything is just being purchased left and right, I just hope this isn’t a piece of the bubble that is Web 2.0. I don’t believe it is, but there needs to be a stream of revenue for every separate social bookmarking property.

Both Mixx and Digg s*$% #$%. There is always some story about Obama, Hillary, US invasion, how evil is GW. Digg was supposed to be a technology site. And now it’s neither technology, nor business, but reminds me of a hybrid between yellow press and left wing complaining site. And the comments are the worst part. Not too mention it’s a horrible waste of time.

Most of the top stories get close to 100 votes and out of a beta crowd of tens of thousands that’s not too bad. Digg has “millions” of users right? What’s the average number of votes a top story gets? Anybody? Hundreds of thousands? I didn’t think so.

The #5 story at Digg right now is… get ready:

“Midwife helps women reach orgasm during childbirth”

Oh yeah, that’s really important.

Besides, popularity and karma points isn’t what Mixx.com is about. I don’t even look at the popular stories anyway. I do look at the popular images though which is something Mixx was doing before Digg.

After several months of glowing, frequent coverage, the top stories at Mixx are still lucky to get more than a couple dozen votes.

Of the current Popular Stories, only one has more than 30 votes, and that story is about Mixx itself. Of the top ten all time most Popular Stories, six of them are either positive stories about Mixx or negative stories about Digg.

Doesn’t look like the site has much traction, at least not yet.

Gee Tim I somehow wonder where you get that conclusion. Have you been to Mixx? Did you know they are rolling out features that Digg has been lacking?
Digg recently rolled out a photo section, something Mixx had at start-up. Kevin Rose was talking about awards for his users, again, Mixx had that up start-up. Mixx has also just rolled out related content feature. Does Digg have that yet? I think not. So why don’t you really look at the Mixx features before you make half-witted claims.

I glad Mixx is finally referred to as a competitor as opposed to a clone. I glance at the top Digg submissions at popurls.com and all I see is crap. With Mixx, I have complete control over the types and subject matter of articles and websites I see regardless of their popularity. This allows me to ignore the karma junkies who post whatever they come across – 90% of which is drivel.

In other words, Mixx is a true news/web aggregate service with an incredible range of content and, IMO, unique to the web.

Take that, Digg trolls!

TechCrunch has been talking about Mixx for a while now and I keep checking out the site expecting something big, but so far I haven’t been very impressed.

I’ll check it out next time you plug it, but for the time being, I’m sticking with digg and reddit.
