Still number one social networking destination MySpace has entered the casual flash games market with games.myspace.com.
The new site won’t win any awards for innovation, indeed it looks like a < $100 template buy from Digitalpoint, but ultimately that doesn't make a difference. Casual flash gaming combined with a youngish user base in the millions makes this a no-brainer in terms of going to be a success for MySpace. The only question is whether it will cut into similar sites that also offer flash gaming. It's certainly not in Kongregate territory yet, but there are plenty of smaller players with very similar looking sites and games. (Having said that, the first game offered on the site is Desktop Tower Defense, so maybe it is slightly higher up the tree).
Games.myspace.com offers a variety of multiplayer and single player games. A link can be found to the service from the front page of MySpace.

I guess there’s something to be said for last-mover advantage. I’m sure they’d like a slice of those Pogo dollars, though, but the race will be won by the little guys. Look for Kongregate to get some serious interest in the next year or so if they can stave off the Vulture Capitalists..
Make sure to check out ‘Ocean Explorer’, ‘Luminara’, ‘Indestruct2Tank’, ‘Hangman Extreme’, ‘Ball Revamped 5′ or ‘Four Second Fury’.

A few notes: 1. “casual games” are played mostly by adults, not youngish people. 2. More than 80% of MySpace’s users are over 18, and MySpace has the most 45+ share of any social network. In other words, this is a perfect fit. Btw, MySpace used to have a games section long ago, but its been disabled for the last year. Not sure why!

I won’t ever visit this website but still kudos to myspace. They keep coming with features and additions to their social network. Not like snail paced Flickr or some other sites.

The site looks cheesy as hell but…hey its MySpace. They can get away with all kinds of s%#t.
Personally, I think this is part of the myspace.com strategy to get back members they’ve lost in the battle against Facebook.com. We all know that the Facebook.com phenomenon has grab users from many other social websites and myspace.com is now trying to get back the users through one proven way, that is gaming social website, just like Kongregate.

Multigames has more of a Youtube concept, ie developers can upload and have their game up in a minute. But the more social aspect of myspace is interesting.

Kongregate is far from being the leading game site on the interenet, and the myspace game website will be certainly more popular in a few days… Of course kongregate has been covered on techcrunch, “the youtube of games” (non sense) and it’s web2.0, but newgrounds.com for examlpe is far more popular than Kongregate and is doing approximatively the same things since a long time ago (10 years?).
MySpace Games looks to be the standard template powered by Oberon Media (http://corp.oberon-media.com/), which also powers Comcast, Verizon, parts of MSN, and a number of others. MySpace monetizes their visitors via rev shares from ads and game downloads, and Oberon adds another provider to their network. Good win for Oberon.

Newgrounds has been around for 10+ years, has 10 x times the traffic that most flash game sites have, and by most definitions is the ‘YouTube’ of Games and Animations. (Not to mention, it’s completely Web 2.0 and has been for a while)

The way this article refers to Kongregate as if it was the leading game website around, is really showing that the author of this article has a lot to learn about online gaming websites…
stay tuned for V2 of this site, it includes features that would make other “social sites” look pointless.
I checked MySpace today and it had over 13,000 players on the site @ one time. The most I’ve ever seen on Kongregate is 11,000.
