First GPhone Hands-On

We’re trying to grab some better quality video for you all, but here is CG’s first hands-on with the GPhone. It’s actually the emulator running on Texas Instruments hardware and is very speedy and quick. The downside? No real compelling reason right now to say this is better than any other mobile Linux platform, let alone WinMo and Symbian. It’s basically a proof of concept in the wild.

Gphone vs iPhone.Who win?
Chocolate Rain GPhone
@Igor - iPhone
This is the Google phone right?
Looks pretty lame - not the usual Google market killer we’re used too.
Doesn’t look like they are putting too much effort into all this, just a market they think they should be in so are tentitively putting a toe in the water.
Be interesting to see a finished product though.
@JohnBiggs What arguments?
when is google going to actually make their own phone with ad supported service? :X
While you’re waiting for this thing to become a reality, you can already get the full iPhone/Safari-like WebKit browsing experience on Windows Mobile devices starting today: http://www.torchmobile.com
@Igor - see @Lynx
there is no gphone and never will be a gphone, android is a pos OS.
Thank you for the Chocolate Rain reference. May be the device its on that is limiting its “appeal”. Any sitings of the OS on another device?
Just one more reason they should focus on search and stop going in so many different directions.
Why call this a GPhone if it is not really a GPhone?:
GPhone: It’s just a word, and it’s all that matters!
LOL! I move away from the mic to breathe.
@7 -
There’s also a working (though limited) emulator at androidemulator.com
People, this is not a Gphone! Its a Texas Instruments phone running the Google OS through an emulator.
What happened to Google maps?
Could not load?
hahah
Looks and feels like crap! He couldn’t even get Gmaps up!!!
Nice. I still like the iPhone better. Think new UI paradigm. the GPhone seems the old stuff only better. I rather go with the change.
It’s basically a proof of concept in the wild.
Very nice when it goes Live ?
Way too many crunchgear posts on techcrunch. Why have two sites if crunchgear posts are appearing on TC? Is it only to drive up clicks?
Great clip although you should invest in a mini tripod, would have made it even better.
nice clipping
Will gphone beat iPhone?
