That was a crazy bet 7 years ago but given how fast CPUs are getting and the evolution of the JS VM with tamarin and others, I think that the bet day took is going to clearly pay off. Performance is only going to matter so much in the decision people make when selecting a browser. The overall experience and innovation will matter more I think and by being more open and extensible, I think that Firefox is set to win on the innovation front.
