Reed Hundt Invests in Facebook Ad-Platform Lookery
by Erick Schonfeld on February 7, 2008

lookery-logo.pngIt’s not a lot of money, but Lookery’s $900,000 seed round includes Reed Hundt, Charles River Ventures, and HT Ventures. That’s right, Reed Hundt. The former chairman of the FCC. He thinks there’s gold in Facebook ads, apparently, even though Lookery is a distant fourth compared to other social ad startups Slide, RockYou, and SocialMedia. Maybe even fifth, if you include iLike. But who is counting? Lookery is going for volume and hoping to make a couple cents on each ad.

Does Hundt even use Facebook? it looks like he’s set up a profile, at least. Reed, time to add a picture!

Scott Rafer’s one of the cofounders at Lookery, so I’m cheering them on. Smart guy.

Thanks for the coverage, and if you go to our blog - we really are looking for a few more people to join our team. It’s a great company to work for.

Erick, do you have something to disclose? That’s 2 articles in 1 week :)

You guys could forgo an A round of financing and just run Social Media’s ads on your properties instead. :)

“Distant fourth.” Wow, does that make us the Giuliani of FB ad networks?

We’re both an ad network and privacy freaks. As we grow up, we hope that our association with, and occasional access to, Chairman Hundt will make it easier to uphold the strong privacy tenets that we hold dear.

[and thank you, Mr. Weekly]

How come Charles River invested in this and Social Media? Are they not competitive?

Lets poke him ! lol :D

@Amy

SocialMedia will provide their own details when they choose, but in general the two companies bracket the market. They’ll kick butt in from whichever high-value strategy they choose, and Lookery is working to raise the market’s Lowest Common Denominator.
