Facebook has quietly added the ability for users to recommend friends to other friends, a social networking feature that comes straight from LinkedIn.
AllFacebook suggests that the new feature is Facebook recommending friends to users based on common friend sets, and yet in context the feature is listed along with the toggle for receiving emails “when someone..” suggesting that this is more LinkedIn style than any sort of automated service from Facebook, but I could be wrong.
In related Facebook news, one of two new iPhone ads from Apple feature Facebook on the iPhone. According to TUAW, this is the first time an iPhone app has been featured in the ad, and the voice over states “Apple announces in the commercial, “If you love Facebook so much that you check it all the time on your computer, just think how great it would be to check it every time… you’re, well, nowhere near your computer.” Whether this is just Apple cashing in on Facebook’s popularity by association, or given the very clear plug for Facebook part of some sort of tie-up is not yet known.

I know its off topic but how about doing a write up on WE7.COM

My company – Techinline – provides a web service for remote desktop access/desktop sharing (like WebEx, Logmein, etc.). The service runs in a browser and can be easily implemented as a Facebook application – so that Facebook users will be able to help their friends solve computer problems or show their desktop to their friends.
Although our service is usually not free (users must buy one of our plans), we plan to provide it for free to Facebook users. We believe this can bring us more paying customers and help us get some media coverage.
What do you think – will such an application really be useful for Facebook users? We all know most existing Facebook applications are useless, and perhaps desktop-sharing is something that can be a killer application for Facebook.
This new feature could be useful for those who use Facebook for network, such as wee little bloggers like myself. We’re always looking for new interesting, useful contacts and if a trusted friend can make a recommendation, why not?
Of course, like anything else on FB, it’ll be used, abused and totally ruined by the kids, but in the meantime, I may well make use of it.
And don’t worry, Duncan, it gets to a point where you get numb to the “Friends for sale” requests… Usually comes after a few zombie bites. The numbness… then the cold… and the darkness.
I noticed something on the same page called “Pages”. It’s not an existing facebook app as far as I can tell. Little flag icon.
Let the feature copying– er, “cross-pollination”…er, “synergizing key paradigms” begin. Web3.0 ain’t got shit on this action.
LinkedIn going to deadpool?
HEY! speaking of iphone ads – just saw the iphone ad that was running recently and noticed when they clicked through to the stock screen it showed several big stocks (starbucks, nike, etc) – one was GOOG trading at $510 – that ad was produced ages ago, as in the last time GOOG went up and past 510 – how ironic huh, they’re airing it this month all over new england…
interesting feature
