Natali Gets Loaded Today

Former TechCrunch Writer Natali Del Conte’s new CNET TV show, Loaded, launched today. And true to CNET’s general policies, the show is not embeddable on other websites (you can see it here). Also standard CNET policy - they sort of borrowed a headline without attribution (Natali says “Google and Microsoft exectuives were not watching the Superbowl on Sunday” - I wonder where she got that from).
Beyond that, the show is excellent, and much better than her previous TeXtra show - Natali is front and center with the camera and the content is more compelling, at least so far. I’m pretty sure we’re going to be seeing Natali host a mainstream cable TV show sometime in the near future. She has the talent and the looks. And the day she does become famous, I can say “I worked with her a while back,” although I won’t mention she quit after two weeks.
(I’m just kidding about the headline stealing, at least with regard to Natali - she mentions TechCrunch later in the show. “Story stealing” is just a long time blogger criticism of CNET, although the last few months they’ve mostly stopped doing that.)

I doubt CNET execs would read to the end of the post when ringing up the lawyers takes less effort.
Mike, You are amazing. Some how I always feel your stories are more personable
Cute, smart and all that, but bottom line, it’s just another tech videoblog presented by an attractive female.
yeah, the more the merrier, i’m not complaining, but is there any of these gals doing something, really something, to differentiate themselves from the rest of the pack? when people launch a new talk show on tv, or even on the radio, that’s a main concern. these tech-gal shows all seem a bit of the same, being more a matter of who’s face/voice you enjoy more. the one who manages to stand out will win. so far it’s hard for me to pick… am i alone?
Does anyone really have the patience to watch shows like this more than once? Reading is so much faster.
The “_____ didn’t watch the Super Bowl because they were doing something else” joke is fairly obvious. They may have plagiarized your jokes in the past, and thus you are defensive, but that one isn’t particularly creative or clever.
soap - i get what you’re saying, but i wonder why you limit your criticism to female-hosted shows? i would say that your critique applies to almost all of the general-interest tech news videoblogs, podcasts, etc.
unless the show has a narrow or niche focus, they’re all talking about the same thing.
so why label this show as a “tech-gal” show? Natali’s gender doesn’t seem to be the focus of the show, so I wonder why it’s your focus?
why should women have the extra burden of having to climb out from under the “tech-gal” label? if this was a male-hosted show you wouldn’t be talking about gender or how “attractive” the host is or whose face you enjoy more, would you?
i don’t mean to put you on the spot (although I realize I just did
- I find this reaction a very common one out there. partly i think it’s just that it’s a very male-dominated industry.
Congrats Natali!
Well, no offence, but her movements are annoying. It’s not just the gesture but her whole body shaking and moving all the time… way over the top, especially if you try to deliver some serious news.
Either she is really nervous or one of those people who cannot hold still for a second.
“Well, no offence, but her movements are annoying. ”
I think the word you were looking for is “adorable.”
Yes, I’m sure gender had nothing to do with pulling her zipper tag down to nipple-level.
Mike - on the contrary, it was both creative, and clever.
Does anyone else think this looks and sounds a lot like G4’s Daily Feed vodcast? Even right down to the “you’ve just been loaded,” which seems to have been copied from The Feed’s “you’ve just been fed.” Other than that not a bad piece.
no, mate, not adorable… “annoying” was on the spot!
I’m from Europe and we got somewhat different standards over here, so I wouldn’t start freaking out as soon as a lady weighting less than 160lbs appears on the screen
I agree that the movement was distracting, but the pacing was good.
I wish she would’ve spent more time on the last point regarding the discrepancies between men’s and women’s salaries. It’s an important topic and she’s right that women don’t negotiate nearly enough. But some more specific advice on how to approach that would have added to that segment. Anyone interested in this topic should read Women Don’t Ask. It is very informative and also inspiring (and note that men can learn quite a bit from it as well).
heiner: shutup mate! I’ve got a fleet of nerds waiting at Mike’s disposal to attack you in defense of the whole natali-is-hot thing.
wow, that comment is even more dotty than your usual stuff. google & ms execs were not watching the superbowl….well, duh. isn’t that a fairly generic statement? and you think they’re “stealing” from you? hello, captain queeg.
‘Natali gets Loaded’..
sounds great!
Loaded is a natural evolution from TeXtra, and I can already see growth in her on screen presence. Natali wants to be more than a “pretty talking head”, and I think that she will soon differentiate herself from shows like Webb Alert and Rocketboom.
Hahaha… she probably quit because we all hit on her like crazy in the comments. That was so much fun… ahhh good times… good times.
Whoaaa! way too much make up Natali. Natural skin is the way to go. Blemishes (not that you have any) don’t even show on camera so ditch all the cake they put on your face.
