Some users aren’t happy at the prospect of a Microsoft takeover of Flickr’s parent company, Yahoo. To protest, they do what Flickr users do - upload images.
In this case, the images are all anti-Microsoft, and there’s some really creative stuff. The group has, so far, 917 members and 123 photos. What’s your favorite? Here’s mine.
More from Scott Beale.

The same whiners cried about how they had to ditch logins and switch to Yahoo logins. Boohoo. Trading one boss for another boss.
awesome

OMG microsoft is big and evil. Attention: you’re not being edgy by hating on big companies
I don’t understand there issue: the alternative is a hedge fund and if they think Microsoft is bad, watch services be cut and every single cent milked out of what remains by the alternative. Microsoft wont mess with Flickr, it’s one of the jewels in the Yahoo crown, if anything Flickr will grow even more under Microsoft…or is this the point? do they want to keep Flickr as their own exclusive domain?
Its the same people all the time
If this acquisition happens I’ll be switching over to SmugMug (http://smugmug.com/)
If history is of any guidance… there was a similar outcry when Yahoo acquired Flickr. Those have largely died down, and look how big Flicker has become since then.
The fish one RULES!

I hope the merger happens.
Boo Hoo Cry Babies. If MS buys MS, I’m switching to SmugMug. If SmugMug was so great, you would be using now. What a bunch of BS posturing.
I am with comment number one. Yeah MS is evil they have given Bill G billions which he in turn is using to heal the world, yeah real evil. I swear these people have nothing better to do.
If MS owns Flickr, I’m switching to my good ‘ole analog photo album, boo hooo!!
Here at MyBloop.com we’ll be waiting for all you angry Flickr users with open arms.
i guess these guys are stupid. i mean i find the other stuff funny, but protesting because of the acquisition is just stupid. what do these losers want? make flickr fold? or have it continue under another company (which would be msft)? i agree with you duncan, hedge funds wouldnt work… whiners…
mass fear (and stupidity) at its best
i dont use any yahoo services, and a minimal amount of microsoft services … i live on google yet i am excited by the prospect of this acquisition as it will result in even greater innovation from both sides
SmugMug is great, I actually like it much better than flickr only all my friends and family are already on flickr.
I have created my anti-Microsoft logo on my blog and post it to the Flickr as well.
Feel free to use the logo at your wish.
Microsoft! Don’t touch my flickr!
Let’s see how easy it is for some folks with 10’s of gigabytes of photos uploaded to Flickr to move them. It’ll be a short lived protest.
Oh god. I remember the protest against Yahoo - to what end? Here we go again.
Why do some people see any buy out or merger as a foregone conclusion???
Yahoo might decide to try and stick it and out and do what business are supposed to do - attempt to make it through the hard times and innovate and grow. Sure - they could take they easy way out but that seems to be only good for a few already rich people.
Even if this was the other way around and Yahoo was proposing to buy Microsoft - would that be a good idea for Microsoft’s business?
You could even say that Google is #1 because they have a better product (if that is the market’s opinion) and that the market has spoken so merging two inferior (I’m not saying this is my opinion just the market’s) products wont necessarily bring about a better competitor.
Look at what happened with AOL/Time Warner. Just because it might be temporarily good for the shareholders or the board members does mean it is good for the business.
Why not give Yahoo a chance to rebuild itself post Terry Semel and give Microsoft a chance to complete it’s Live strategy and let the market speak when they are done?
Flickr users wont mass migrate to Smugmug because Flickr is Free ….
Now if Microsoft makes them pay a subscription maybe then the “I’m moving to Smugmug” might be a valid argument .
Personally I like Picassa .
Duncan, the concern is which part of the Live team will decide the fate of Flickr. Is it the guys who came up with Live Writer (good), or the ones that perpetrated Spaces?
The Yahoo purchase went ok, largely because Flickr was left alone. However, if MS is going to ‘liveify’ Flickr, there could be a lot of people going away.
It may be the opportunity Zooomr is looking for, though…
@Larry:
The board of a public company has the ultimate obligation to do what is best for the shareholders.
If the MS bid will benefit the shareholders more than “attempt to make it through the hard times and innovate and grow” than they must (legally binding) accept the offer.
There is also the option of a hostile take over where Yahoo! won’t even have a say.
Does Flickr like Google?
Well, Flickr doesn’t even like Google either.

Both Microsoft and Google are evil.
Flickr Loves Yahoo.
Hope the new management does not give flickr employees to stupidly delete accounts without any reason or warning:
Alot of people need reality checks especially the people who claim microsoft and yahoo are the unholy alliance or the evil empire. the truth is that this is only a natural progreession of the two and it will be good for both companies in the long term. Users must be aware that there are many other smaller and medium size companies out there offering services for people and business who dont wish to deal with big companies. There is plenty of market share to go around. Google needs to start releasing alphas and not just betas (have they ever truly released a production application yet) Google, should rename itself to BetaSearch or something like it. Google is the evil empire. Google is shaking in there boots because beyond all the hype google is just one big corporate college experiment that hasnt had a real competitor. Microsoft/ Yahoo can be that real competitor.
For the flikr people out there get a clue go out an search for information rather than believing the hype…how many of you have been directly effected by Microsoft supposed hegmony. Rather how many have you been subjected to propoganda from companys who fear competitive markets?
Duncan, I think it has to do with a feeling. A strong one. Thats the value of the brand speaking up on it’s own.
Oh no, we don’t want billions of cash money in our pockets! Be glad Microsoft is asking ugly ol’ Yahoo to dance…
Can this circus change anything?
http://www.flickr.com/groups/flick_off/
makes this stuff seem kind of silly, no?
That would be great if the anti-MS fans could get off Flickr. It’s so stupid to jump off Flickr just because MS owns it.
I bet if Apple owned it, they would be kissing their computer screens.
Chances are, Flickr is going to be much better. Microsoft WANTS to keep the user base, and they’ll do things like reduce the pro account fees, add amazing tech like PhotoSynth, HD View, among other things that user can ‘choose’ to integrate with their photos, and other stuff.
I don’t know what’s so bad about it.

Rather than griping it seems to make sense to organize. Some kind of collective action should be taken — a pledge at PledgeBank.com or something of that sort.
