Every change he's made has been based on the needs of the community -- sure, they're his implementation, but I'd hate to think what a "group designed" web site would look like. This reminds me of the Cluetrain thesis, "We want you to take 50 million of us as seriously as you take one reporter from The Wall Street Journal."
