Culinary Seductions: Cooking For Men Who Want To Impress Women
by Duncan Riley on January 31, 2008

culinary.jpgCooking and recipe sites are a dime a dozen online, but usually they offer generic recipes tailored for people who cook regularly….and despite women’s liberation and equality of the sexes that’s still statistically women.

Culinary Seductions
is billed as “the guys guide to cooking for girls” and does just that, offering recipes for men wishing to look smart by cooking for women.

The recipes are split into Dishes/ Course (including “food for the morning after”), difficulty and moods. Moods include decadent, snugly, saucy, sassy, nutty and luscious, but seems to miss out some obvious mood choices for a partner like cranky, irrational and argumentative.

The recipes on offer seem to be reasonable enough; there’s nothing ground breaking in the food but the way its split up is helpful and the instructions are fairly straight forward.

Might be worth a look if you’re a bloke looking for something to cook for your better half.

This is all fine but I was wondering if you guys would have covered Microsofts new venture of comic strips? And to make it more “interesting”, web 2.0 compliant as MS puts it, it would be asking real life geeks to submit stories of their IT prowess, some of which will be used by the edit team to churn out stories.

“the guys guide to cooking for girls” might be attractive to single guys who are clueless to what ladies want and will never learn the ropes by reading cosmo and using Culinary Seductions.

Gold post, as usual. See, the thing with your posts, beyond the fact that you cover all the latest web 2.0, mobile, business jazz… is that I actually crack a genuine laugh from time to time.

They could probably add another section which details what food item can used for what kind of sex…like cherries and whipped cream…blah blah blah.

LOL.

yikes!
This site is WAY better (DISCLOSURE: because I made it, see)
http://www.opensourcefood.com

This seems like the reverse of what “Way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”, the guys at culinary seductions believe the same for women too. well I can ask my man to take some lessons and apply on me to understand whether they really work. ha ha ha… good work though!

Pramila.

Not much better than domino pizza’s!

Somehow I don’t think that the concept will stick. Men, cooking, come on.

WTF? Maybe in flyover country more women cook than men, but in virtually every case I can think of on either coast the man is the chef and culinary gourmet. Men are pervasively the more skilled gender when it comes to cooking in almost every setting I’ve paid attention.

Hell, almost all the top chefs are also men. Ironically, cooking has become a man’s world. And good for them (and me): they are good at it and seem to enjoy the nuance of it for its own sake.

This is really a lame ass idea.

Guys should spend more time impressing themselves than women — Less stress, less bullshit and less hassle. It’s 2008 — Or have we forgotten that?

“but usually they often generic recipe sites”

LOL @ Maxim recipies - Look, this is really targeted at men who are 18-24

Duncan Riley is born to Gay - January 31st, 2008 at 9:44 pm PST

RumorsL Duncan Riley might be gay and have sexual affair with Techcrunch founder, Michael Arrington.

We know Duncan Riley is proud Techcrunch Gay lord. He wants to marry Micheal Arrington. He dream about watching brokeback mountain and sleeping with him. It’s not going to happen. You jackass!

Hey, duncan. Quit sound gayish articles.
If you want to marry Mike. Here’s best quote from Walk the line:
Use it on Techcrunch.

“Now I’ve asked you forty different ways and it’s time you come up with a fresh answer…I’m asking you to marry me. I love you, June. Now I know I said and done a lotta things—that I hurt you—but I promise, I’ll never do that again. I only want to take care of you. I will not leave you like that Dutch boy with your finger in the dam…You’re my best friend. Marry me.”

lol - guys are morons, that’s the problem.
if you want to impress girls, don’t be a typical guy guy.

be an emotional, metro-sexual, who can fix things.

Everybody needs a gimmick. They want to be a generic food site, so watch them find a male Rachel Ray as the subject matter of the site gets more generic and they publish a cookbook ’round about Xmas 08. Just add tits and strawberries!

Is this being led by those Various, Inc. personals/porn dolts? It’s about their speed, though people will probably buy the book anyway.

some of their pics are pretty sexy!

#17 I totally agree, screw the food part, checkout http://www.culinaryseductions.com/gallery/main.php

I think it’s time Techcrunch put a filter on comments to make sure no one from India or China can post. It’s like being on a bad tech support call lately in here.

To send this site to my husband would not be a bad idea.

I did a ton of research on this idea back three years ago for a site I was building; http://www.dinnerforher.com. As you can see I built a test site but never fullfilled the idea. Sadly I decided that there wasn’t enough demand to continue to project.

P.S. If you ever want to impress a woman just tell her you’re building a website that helps guys cook for their dates ;)

Also, if you want some good ideas go to amazon and get these 2 books:
- Cooking to Hook Up: The Bachelor’s Date-Night Cookbook (Cookbooks)
- Win her with Dinner

As a 20 something urban dweller I would say that any guy who made me the meal from the menu, Meat Loving Madam would definitely impress me and get me to return the favor.

I think it’s a good idea for a website, but unfortunately most guys don’t care to put so much effort into impressing females so they’re better off focusing on the females rather than the food.
