Just another scary step for Google in obtaining every piece of information about you. Health records are extremely confidential, that's why Google wants it.

They're biting off a lot. They'll roll out everything except the medical records download. Doing the last-mile integration into medical establishments is a hairy problem, from a technical perspective, a legal/HIPAA perspective, and from usability and process perspective. The consumer value proposition of having my health information online is unclear. It's not saving me money, it's not information I need to access frequently, and the privacy risk is a big deterrent.

Google has no idea what's ahead. Changing consumer behavior around health is perhaps the hardest challenge on the planet....add the complexity of government bureaucracy and you might as well thrown your money down the toilet now.

EMR and personal medical records are interesting issues...but certainly not the most pressing issues in healthcare. Perceived value proposition is not high...so there is little incentive to act.

Additionally, all the blather about US Healthcare being broken is completely without merit. Sure there are issues, including inefficiencies and resulting costs, but ask anyone with some education, and who understands other markets, beyond what Michael Moore feeds them, “where would you rather get treatment...the US or Canada, UK etc.?”

Google seems to be under the assumption that our doctors and chemists are savvy and organized enough to participate in this sort of thing.

I agree with the other comments, too, that Google is trying too hard to be in everything at once. There are services that Google provides which I could not live without (e.g., Gmail, Reader, Maps), but then others don't even cross my mind (e.g., Orkut, Notebook, Finance). At some point, Google is going to lose money from making all these needless services.

Remember that highest bid for ad words is "Mesothelomia", a rare cancer. Health is a rentable buisness for Google. Now they'll be able to prevent more fraudulant clicks : Why are you looking for a cure if you do not have a cancer? The same certainly go for aids... Maybe the price of the click will be higher if you're really sick? "The misfortune of one is the happiness of others".

"* Share selected information with family or caregivers"
I can't wait for the next GReader mistake when you'll unfortunately anounce to your familly, boss and friends that you have aids...

And we should trust a "beta" service ?!

Already sick of it!
