Travel Organizer Tripit Goes Social

Travel organization service Tripit, a TechCrunch 40 finalist that was recently named by Michael as one of the companies he couldn’t live with out, is getting more social with new location-based social ”Closeness” alerts.

“Who’s Close To Me?” automatically notifies users if their travel plans overlap with fellow travelers while on the road, and “Who’s Coming to my City?” automatically identifies colleagues who will be visiting the users hometown when they’re not traveling.

Tripit claims that the new features “offer a unique social network for travelers and their community of contacts.” The ability to connect with other travelers is a nice addition to what is already a good service.

CEO of Tripit Gregg Brockway said that the service provides a better way for Frequent travelers to keep up to date when they “don’t have the extra time to keep track of their travel as well as the travel schedules of their friends, family and associates.”

This is great. Nothing else could be better than having a sense of community among travelers.

Wow, I hadn’t even checked out their service until today. Forwarding your travel plans to have a master itinerary built is a brilliant idea. I like how you don’t have to sign up to get started.

Excellent tool for those who travel a lot

Sounds EXACTLY like Dopplr.com!?

This is very similar to Yahoo Travel

Although I love the idea for these closeness alerts, it may pose a potential privacy issue in the future. There may be a possibility that a person may be the victim of a stalker. This may open it up to litigious action down the road.

#6 I agree - here is my post on the topic:
http://www.centernetworks.com/.....s-function

I also struggle with why such a functional app would want to expand in this fashion.

Though adding the ability for singles to meet on a vacation would be awesome.

Hi all, this is Scott from TripIt. Just wanted to chime in quickly to make it clear that your trip information is NOT shared with the public in TripIt. We only share your list of destinations (and dates) with people you connect with in TripIt, by either sending them a friend invite or by accepting one they’ve sent you.

And then, when you connect with someone as a TripIt friend, that person can only see where you are going and when (and you can always mark a trip as ‘private’ to hide it even from your friends). They won’t see your detailed itinerary (including flight numbers, hotel name, etc.) unless you specifically take an extra step to share the itinerary with them. So you have complete control in TripIt over who sees your trip info and how much they see.

I wish they supported Carlson Wagonlit Travel… :(

I really wonder how much this happens in real life?

This is Andrea from TripIt. We’ve recently added quite a bit of support for Carlson Wagonlit. If you haven’t sent in a CW confirmation in a while, give it another try. You should see much better results. If you’re still running into issues, please feel free to contact us directly at support@tripit.com and we’ll take a look ASAP.

This could be very cool for people try to coordinate destination wedding! As long as they include the photographers too!

this is exactly what the likes of WAYN, DOPPLR, Tripadvisor, Vibeagent, and so many more are now doing - cant see anything innovative here?

I’ve used Tripit for a while. Tripit is 100 percent easier to use than WAYN. And is better integrated/compatible with travel purchasing sites like Hotwire or Orbitz. For instance, when you use a site like Hotwire or Orbitz to buy tickets, you can just fwd your purchased ticket email to Tripit and it instantly makes an organized trip plan for you. It’s not really like Yahoo Travel either which is as spidery and hard to manage as Yahoo 360 was. I would never use Yahoo Travel for managing my travel plans. That’s not what it’s really for. Y Travel is more social/research and I wouldn’t use it to plan business trips. But, I would use Tripit to plan and organize trips for business where you really need a level of organization and accountability, and accessibility.

Counting whereupon now the hotels are offering complete packages (including food, bar and the use of the facilities) almost never we found reservation when we needed it. Now to organize vacations no longer will be so stressing.

I like the idea.

wow, it’s a nice work. I hope, our site will be better than :)
